Work fandom collision

Well more of a gentle nudge than a collision really :) Earlier this week I had the pleasure of attending a two day strategic planning event at a very swanky local hotel. Our inimitable departmental PA is already thinking about planning the follow-up synthesis event and one possible venue she mentioned is Culzean Castle. Y'know the one, Robert Adam's neoclassical extravaganza, seat of Clan Kennedy and the Earls of Cassilis. Aye that one. Needless to say I got quite excited at the very suggestion :) Although we take a spin down to Culzean most years, as it's such a lovely trip, its a while since I've actually been in the castle and I've certainly never stayed there. How much fun would that be?!
Anyway our lovely PA has now lent me a gorgeous National Trust book on the history of Culzean and Clan Kennedy. It's beautifully illustrated with period artwork, including portraits of a whole bunch of Archibald Kennedys and photographs of Adam's masterpiece. Oh and it's also positively hopping with plot bunnies! I suspect you may be hearing more about this...

Date: 2010-01-23 05:47 pm (UTC)It's an absolutely gorgeous spot. The castle is build right on the cliff overlooking the Firth of Clyde, Arran, Ailsa and Ireland. This icon pick was taken further up the coast just north of Culzean.

Hopefully! One plot bunny has already turned itself into a fic. All I need to do now is try to find time to write it down before I forget the damn thing!

And can't wait to see this fic!
At the moment trying to persuade 4 yr old to get ready for bed is taking precedent over the fic :} I'll get there yet though!

Date: 2010-01-23 07:31 pm (UTC)Oh aye, Horatio would be horrified by the impracticality and extravagance of it all.
I've never been, I must try and get there this summer.
It's just lovely, definitely worth a visit. I'll try and put some scans up from the National Trust book next week. I'm particularly taken with Lady Ailsa's Boudoir :)

Are any of the Archibald Kennedys in the protraits pretty enough to be our boy?
Erm.... you'll have to wait and see ;)
I look forward to the plotbunnies, my dear.
I'm nailing one to the mast right now!

Date: 2010-01-23 09:49 pm (UTC)Hurrah! I can't wait. I have a story with my beta at the moment, but I'm not sure that I'm going to have the nerve to post it. It's the most unsure I've been about a fic for a while.
