Had to keep daughter off school today as she had a raging temperature this morning. By the afternoon, following several doses of calpol and a snooze on the couch, she had fully recovered and was jumping around the living room dressed as a pirate.

Partner, who happens to be a nurse, wrote an absentee note for her teacher this evening. Rather than saying "she had a temperature" daughter's sick note pronounces that she had "pyrxia". I didn't even attempt to explain why that made me laugh like a drain....XD

So pleased to read that daughter recovered so fast. Seems to be going round a bit. Son of my friends' neighbours had a temperature and after medication and a long nap was fine again in the evening to hug the Labradors.

Daughter had recovered sufficiently rapidly to be jumping around the living room dressed as a pirate by late afternoon! It has taken her till now to recover her appetite though :/

I should have pointed out that pyrexia is rife in Hornblowerfandom, following the discovery that a historical Archie Kennedy of HMS Victory was signed on to Beatty's sick list with "pyrexia with catarrhal affection". This discovery sparked a ridiculous spate of "snot fic":

You have shamed me into action :} I uploaded some fic today! Goodness only knows when I'll get round to uploading the rest, but I was very impressed with the site's functionality.

Aye, her temperature had disappeared by the end of the day but it's really only today she has started eating again. Hasn't stopped her running about like a mad thing though!

Indeed. Dr Clive concurs.

Pyrexia is rife in Hornblower fandom as I explained to [livejournal.com profile] esteven above.

Well, y'know, it keeps us off the streets ;)

Considering Hornblower himself is such a miserable git most of the time it really is a remarkably silly fandom!

Huzzah indeed! The silliness of the fandom seems to be in inverse proportion to the seriousness of the canon :)

Partner was astonished when I pointed out that daughter's teacher might not know what pyrexia was. I didn't explain where I'd come cross the term before ;)
