Ancient Recs

Coming to a fandom rather late in the day strikes me as being a bit like turning up at the end of a party. You know there were lots of people people there and you can tell they had a lot of fun. However most folk are long gone and its not easy to start a conversation with those that are left.
Of course there are advantages as well as disadvantages. The advantages being the huge amount of amazing fic that has already been written and recc'd; the disadvantages being the equally large number of defunct websites, broken links, and mothballed fora. With a little persistence (okay maybe a little obsession too), a lot of patient web searching and the invaluable assistance of the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine I've had the very great pleasure of reading a lot of material that is no longer accessible on the live web. A great deal of this writing is far too good to be allowed to sink without a trace so I'm going to try to rec a few gems. I'm sure all these pieces have been recc'd many times before but hopefully this will spark a few fond memories. Or perhaps this is just the equivalent of standing in the corner talking to yourself after everyone else has left the party ;-)
Note: I've made the assumption that most fanfic has disappeared from the live web as a result of neglect and the inevitable demise of web hosts however occasionally it's obvious that an author has taken great pains to remove every trace of their writing from the web. So if I do rec something that you really would prefer to be left to fade into obscurity please let me know and I'll remove the post immediately.
