But...but...how will I watch Ringer?!!!!

Although I did always wonder how they got away with it, now I know, they haven't.

I suppose the CW's website streaming has the same problems for non-US viewers as the BBC has for non-UK viewers? Maybe Expat Shield would help.

Dammit, I should have downloaded ALL the episodes of Garrow's Law. Now my darling master post of links is useless. :(

NEED DVD BOX SETS NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW

(wanted them anyway, but was waiting until, y'know, MONEY)

That's where the whole "pirating costs billions" argument falls down. If I download something, like it and it's readily available at a reasonable cost then nine times out of ten I will go and buy a copy as soon as I can afford it. I am old fashioned. I like having physical media. And many people I know do the same. I have so many films, box sets and cds that I would never have bought if I hadn't first seen or heard a pirated track. </ soapbox>

Similar to all the squawking about fan fic and other fan creations--the fans are promoting their shows/movies/books to new audiences. If only they were smart enough to figure that out.

I know that my son feels that if you really like something enought to want it, you should least attempt to buy it as a physical item. I am not always as carefully moral as that.

Does this mean all podfics are unreachable? Is there another way to get and exchange them?

I do buy most things but I certainly have a few downloads hidden at the back of my laptop under a skull and cross bones ;) Mostly episode of L&O UK now I come to think of it! Lol!

Does this mean all podfics are unreachable?
Yep. The FBI are probably enjoying them as we speak XD Who knew they were Hornblower fans?! I have the originals on my laptop so I'll find somewhere else to re-post them as soon as I have a chance.

Bed now. Silly o'clock here and I have the school run tomorrow :}

This actually made me laugh out loud. And I've got images in my head now, of FBI guys in their shirtsleeves, wearing shades, listening raptly to navyboy pr0n. All the while making notes.

There's still hope everyone whose legal (and important!) files were stored or backed on MU will take legal action.

Damn Feds don't deserve our podfic!!

Hmmmm... I wonder if we can expect a rush of new members on [livejournal.com profile] following_sea now? Hornblower / FBI crack!fic anyone? ;)

There's still hope everyone whose legal (and important!) files were stored or backed on MU will take legal action.
I sincerely hope that everyone fights this one to the hilt.

The idea occured to me!

Back in 2003, the US issued a Protection from Pornography Week, which we celebrated by writing crack!fic involving the then-President George W. Bush. Ah, good times!

Well, there are many people who used MU for legit purposes, such as sharing company data or supplying distance students with material for university. I'm sure they'll be well pissed off.

Um, just adding my twopennorth. Megaupload does get used to share legit stuff, but it (and other file sharing sites) also hosts free copies of my books for download (linked there by pirating sites). Illegally shared copies which replace legit sales lose me earnings hand over fist.

Well that's the thing, I hope that most right minded people would realise that we need some copyright protection to enable creative endeavour to flourish. The problem is that this particular brand of rights enforcement is like using a sledge hammer to crack a nut, resulting in legitimate users becoming criminalised. Personally I think that, if anything, individual writers, artists and academics*, such as yourself, need more control over their copyright and creative outputs, not less. However I don't buy the spurious arguments and questionable arithmetic of the US media conglomerates over the billions of dollars they claim to be loosing through piracy, nor their heavy handed tactics. There have to be better ways to address the problem than this. (Like sending the Navyboys to chace down the pirates ;)

* Don't even get me started on the iniquities of academic journal publishing and copyright....

Oh, I agree. Can't see why they just can't shut down the pirate sites as soon as they pop up, rather than legit operations like this? If, however, there is an issue (and I don't know enough about the case to say) that Megaupload knew they had illegal content and didn't take it down then it's a slightly different ballgame.

In last months I comitted a horrible act of shocking piracy, oh my! watching a few things on that scandalous site, You Tube. The result: I'm currently going bankrupt, eagerly, by spending A LOT in bookstores, a classical case of a freshly-possessed fan. I didn't yet buy DVD set only for that it wasn't available at the moment.

And if I'd was really spiteful, I would call 'Ey! Disney and a few others! Yeah, I snatched photos and more things for fanarts and all. An now you owe me something for my work in advertisement!'

JCB to crack a walnut, much? Most stuff I've grabbed off Megaupload has been put there by the creators or has been shared between a small group of people who can't get hold of it easily and want to try before they attempt to buy.

Yeah. Just a teensy bit. As so many people said earlier in the week re SOPA / PIPA, the solution is so much worse than the crime.

Most of the stuff I have shard on megaupload has been original material or recordings of old radio plays and programmes that are no longer available, commercially or otherwise. Dito what I've downloaded. It's infuriating.

I contacted Jinjurly when we were planning the [livejournal.com profile] following_sea podfic challenge to ask if I could forward any submissions we got for upload to the archive but sadly I didn't get a reply :( Maybe I should just have gone ahead and sent the files anyway? All is not lost though! I still have all the mp3s on my laptop, all I need to do now is find time to upload them elsewhere....

All right! All right! I give in! I'll send the podfic over to Jinjurly :)
