I’m back! After an immensely enjoyable and highly productive weekend at the lovely [livejournal.com profile] nodbear’s. We surprised even ourselves and managed to write our whole presentation for the New Researchers in Maritime History conference from start to finish! All we need to do now is to add the pictures, tidy up some references and we’re done with the presentation, though we still plan to do a lot more work on a more comprehensive write up of George Cadogan's three courts martial. We’ll post a preview of the presentation for you guys sometime before the conference of course :)

As [livejournal.com profile] nodbear has already said, we didn’t spend the entire weekend working though. On Sunday [livejournal.com profile] esmerelda_t joined us, after getting lost in Nod’s street and we had a very pleasant Sunday lunch on the banks of the Thames followed by coffee and fangirling back at Nod’s house. We may or may not have laughed ourselves silly at excerpts of dire porn on [livejournal.com profile] weepingcock. Honestly I will never be able to look at a pair of gerbils the same way again….

Other highlights of the weekend included Laurent Perrier, lamb biryani, Ned's menagerie, Susan's forbearance, amontillado, claret and squeeing over Jamie Bamber's nose and other extremities. Quote of the weekend has to go to Nod:

"He does have a way of holding a microphone."

So here, for your enjoyment, is Jamie demonstrating his way with a microphone...

The stance on the far left is quite Archie, isn't it? So often though, I wonder what is going on in that smart brain of his...

Definitely very Archie :)

So often though, I wonder what is going on in that smart brain of his...
You can't help wondering can you?! Though I suspect a lot of the time it'll be something along the lines of "hope the kids remembered to do their homework..." ;)

Welcome back! My favorite is the half-smile at top right, which Horatio says is clearly kept at that level so as not to blind unwary viewers with its brilliance.

Horatio so rarely gets a chance to tease Archie. Usually it's the other way around!

It's the eye contact that goes with the smile..... *sigh*

My favorite smile is the one where they are approching the Indy for the first time. Incandescent!

Yes. He uses his smile more rarely, but it is a very good one.

Ooh are we choosing our favourite Archie smile? Tough one. I think for me it has to be this one at the end of Mutiny. It's the look in his eyes that does it...

Yes. that is a good one. That one seems to reach his eyes too.

Getting lost in Nod's street is very easy. I hear that rugby players do it all the time. And are never seen again...

Glad you had a good time.

Ahhh- caught out at last ... yes - the other Georgey last seen on the way into the close ...

he too of course might merit Pellew's description of 'a delightful boy'

but not even Ned Pellew would call Georgey North 'little' ...

but alas and alack my world domination plan to plant contemporary versions of

the Lorelei down on Guards Club Island to lure England's new talent on to the rocks before the six nations is now exposed -

* cackles evilly and goes off to devise new plot*

Ha! Yes! It would make a change for Ned to have someone to look up to :D

Hmmm that might explain the muffled noises coming from the cellar ;)

Well of course I got lost! You wouldn't let me bring Bartholomew who usually does all the navigating!

Date: 2012-01-31 09:39 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] anteros-lmc.livejournal.com
Pft! Bartholomew would never have led you to Nod's house, he's just have gone straight to the restaurant!

Well yes he might have followed her instead in the hope she had some nice biscuits! Or a rack of lamb.

I am shocked that Bartholomew would be so ungallant as to follow a Lady Spaniel! Even if she did have a nice rack of lamb.

Ah well, somebody has to say it;

"I'm holding my microphone and thinking of you, Horatio."

YAY! Where would I be without [livejournal.com profile] latin_cat to lower the tone of my journal?! :D

Actually I thought I might start a "What's your favourite smile?" thread over at [livejournal.com profile] following_sea. I think it's only fair that the other lieutenants get a look in ;)

It is canon that Bush has a very big bright smile. Remeber the one with 'Oceans of gore, Beauty ashore...' he was smiling and resting his head on the dining table. It said he had a lovely smile.

Ooooh I'd forgotten about that! Thanks for the reminder, I must look out that quote :)

Looooong day here.....Now I am going to eat dinner, drink wine, read your story, and then I will be back.

I am actually slightly concerned that within the smut-driven fandom of AoS I'm the one who's got the reputation.
