These beautiful pictures were taken as part of photographer Michael Marten's Sea Change project to record images of low and high tides around the coast of Britain. Each diptych is taken from an identical position at low and high water. I've posted a couple more of Marten's gorgeous photographs below the cut and you can see the rest of his work here: Michael Marten Fine Art Photography.

Those pictures are glorious. More extreme tidal change than I am used to seeing. Makes me want to go to the beach!

Aren't they stunning? There are huge beaches up where I'm from where the tide comes in faster than a man can run. Beautiful, but a bit scary!

Lovely. Reminds me of Jersey, with the huge tidal reach.

Aye, we tend to take the enormous tidal range for granted and forget how unusual it is in many other parts of the world. Certainly caught Julius Caesar by surprise!

I like the idea! I thought many times about a series of photos in a some place through a year, but it's hard to do, in practice... All the more I admire Michael Martin for this work.

Yes it's the kind of thing I've sometimes thought I would like to try but it's easier said than done! If you look at the dates of the photographs on Marten's own site you can see that he's been building up this work for years. That takes real dedication.

These are gorgeous - and the tides are really awe-inspiring (faster than a man can run, you say? You have to have respect for a force like that).

They're gorgeous aren't they? The transformation in some of the pictures is astonishing.

Definitely. When we were kids we were always being warned not to get cut off by the tide if we were playing on the shore or the beach.
