Sea Interludes
Feb. 9th, 2010 06:03 pm(About time someone raised the tone in this fandom.... ;)
I am a complete philistine when it comes to opera. Unless it's Monteverdi's L'Orfeo which I adore. I just can't be doing with classical opera in general and English libretto in particular. Which is why, despite being intrigued by the music and the subject matter, I just can't listen to Britten's Peter Grimes. So I was really rather delighted to discover the Sea Interludes recently. Yeah, I know, they're hardly a secret, but like I said, I'm an operatic philistine. So now I can listen to beautiful evocative sea music without any of that pesky singing.
And here they are played by the English Symphony Orchestra courtesy of last.fm:
Four Sea Interludes from Peter Grimes: Dawn
Four Sea Interludes from Peter Grimes: Sunday Morning
Four Sea Interludes from Peter Grimes: Moonlight
Four Sea Interludes from Peter Grimes: The Storm

Date: 2010-02-09 10:02 pm (UTC)The music here reminds me quite a bit of the music to various ballet scrores. I feel vaguely sea sick listening to The Storm, you can almost feel the boat rocking under you.
