Boys and Boats
Mar. 26th, 2012 09:56 pmRight out of the blue, a cousin of mine sent me this photograph at the weekend. It's my father and his younger brother as children. I love the way they're laughing, and I love that they're in a boat. It might even be the same boat that was still there when we were kids!

Btw the picture in the icon was taken outside the house where this photograph was probably taken.

Date: 2012-03-26 10:53 pm (UTC)This photo is a good piece of art too-- the legs the way the dark haired boy is leaning a little, and the way that the blond has his head back. I love the little legs, and the little socks.
There is something so timeless about the picture-- I mean they are specific to your family, but they could be any boys, ever.apt
They could be Archie and his brother, or Captain Keene and Dr H.

Date: 2012-03-27 08:17 pm (UTC)Yes that's one of the reasons I love this so much. There's something universal about the image of two small boys laughing in a boat! They're instantly recognisable in a way. Although I confess I'm not actually sure which one is my father!
I'm not one for keeping photographs of family members on display but I'm quite tempted to print this and frame it.

some things are timeless
So true. That's what I really love about this picture.
