I have just opened one of my brand new (to me) CSF books at a random page and what's the first paragraph my eye lights on? This is....

"Bush watched as Hornblower's capable fingers worked the parallel rulers across the chart; Hornblower had long bony hands with something of beauty about them, and it was actually fascinating to watch them doing work at which they were so supremely competent. The powerful fingers picked up the pencil and ruled a line.

"There's the point of interception," said Hornblower."

Good lord! That was a random book opened at a random page! Are they all like that?!

And there was me thinking F is for Fidget was nonsense ;)

More on my lovely new books later, have to dash.

If I recall correctly, there is a LOT about HH's beautiful hands. :) And, going by the picture in your icon (as well as other evidence from the movies!), Gruffudd's hands are pretty perfectly cast.

Ah I see... he was cast because of his hands.... ;)

You've got such a nice time ahead of you. :)

And you're starting with Lieutenant? You've missed out on your one Archie moment, but oh my god is it one beautiful book full of Bush.

You weren't kidding were you when you said CSF was the original fangirl were you?!

And you're starting with Lieutenant?
No I just picked it up and opened it at random before leaving the office. I couldn't get Mr Midshipman Hornblower in the second hand bookshop, so I'm actually starting with Hornblower Goes to Sea!

Just _wait_ till you see some of the lovely / cheesy editions I've got :D

Not to burst [livejournal.com profile] thehappyreturn's bubble but there's only one book that's not written from HH's POV. =)

Telling you, I'd have been in awe if [livejournal.com profile] sarlania hadn't given the game away!

I can't remember which book it's in, but I swear there's a scene where Horatio's fretting over his middle aged paunch while bollock naked.

Or was that a cracktastic dream I had?

Aww come on that's got to be your over fertile imagination!

Mind you, I'm half way through the Caudebec fic [livejournal.com profile] sarlania rec'd and Horatio's fretting over his middle age spread in that. I'm pretty damn sure he's fully clothed though!

but if it was a product of my imagination surely Archie would have been in the corner singing 'who ate all the pies'?

You didn't dream it. I think it's Commodore.

He's such a metrosexual.

Oh good, I was slightly worried there.

Although I always imagine Horatio as thin as a rake when older while Archie's...not. :P

Once again, cruel, but I suspect true! Although I would hope that walking Bartholemew would help to keep the pounds off?

I suspect when Archie walks Bartholomew he treats them both to tea and cake as a reward for all their hard work.

I am sure Horatio still sees a stunning twenty something year old in front of him, but that's what happens when you don't have reliable opticians. :P

Hmmm yes, so I see. I'm half way through "The Cargo of Rice":

Naked and wet, it seemed to him as if the wind blew clear through him; rubbing against the ship's side as she rolled he lost a good deal of skin, and the waves passing down the ship smacked at him with a boisterous lack of consideration.

I swear I am going to write fic with a naked Horatio being smacked with a boisterous lack of consideration by a certain Mr Kennedy!
