Hello, I'm back! Had a lovely wee break at home in the Hebrides. Spent most of the week catching up with my sister and family and visiting various places we haven't been to for ages, including this beach which is probably my favourite place in the whole wide world. I'll post some beachspam later in the week :)

Unfortunately we have come back with a suspiciously spotty daughter who appears to be coming down with chickenpox. Poor thing :(

So what exciting things have you guys been up to all week?

Oh that is beautiful. That expanse of sky...

I have had a quiet week. I have been doing a lot of reading. This upcoming one will be more busy though. Tomorrow I have to go around Manhattan with my brother's daughter and wife.

Then on Wednesday, back to hosp for daughter's yearly brain scan thing. We will be there until Friday at least. She is very reluctant to go. It will be super boring! But we will be online at least.

It is crazy warm here, like mid-summer. T shirt weather. People are out in the street, playing music, and eating street food. The air smells of fried chicken, and sounds of little kids.

I am sorry to hear about the chicken pox. What a pain. Poor thing. At least she will get it over with young.

My husband managed somehow not to get it until he was 21. He got very spotty and miserably sick, and he had to delay his entry into the Navy. They did not want him at boot-camp like that!

Don't be fooled by the picture of the lovely blue sky, we spent a night camping by that beach and it was bloody baltic! Great weather for flying kites though!

Sounds like you have a very busy week lined up. Hope your daughter's annual tests go okay and you both have plenty of reading material or other distractions to take your minds of the super boredom!

It's a bit crazy here too, we had brilliant blue skies and snow on the journey down today. Definitely not t-shirt weather here!

I can sympathise with your husband, I got it when I was 21 too! I was pretty miserable for a week, but it could have been a lot worse. Daughter has managed to avoid several rounds of chicken pox over the last few of years so I'm quite glad in a way that she's caught it now. I just hope she doesn't get too sick as I have to go away to Cambridge for a couple of days on Monday.

Chickenpox time of the year, toots. Better she has it when she's young. Thanks for postcard. *hugs*

Yeah, I'm glad she's got it now, she's missed it when it's been doing the rounds for the last couple of years. My whole house now smells of calamine lotion and toots is parked in front of the tv trying not to scratch!

Glad the card turned up, that was quick! I only posted it on Friday!

That does look pretty. I'm still catching up after last weekend's EasterCon.

It's a very pretty place, I've spent a lot of time there over the years. EasterCon sounds great, I've just been reading your posts!

Aw, poor daughter! I was about as old as she is now when I had the chicken pox, and the worst part of it was having to stay at home and not seeing anybody for two weeks. :/ I hope it'll be over soon.

That's such a beautiful picture! ;__; I really can't wait to visit Scotland! I won't get to see the Outer Hebrides, but I'm going to spend a day and night on the Isle of Skye. *excited*

The recommended quarantine period here seems to be one week and we're already wondering how on earth we're going to juggle work and looking after poor toots! The spots are appearing at a rate of knots now but she's being very brave.

I won't get to see the Outer Hebrides, but I'm going to spend a day and night on the Isle of Skye.
Aye you need about a week to see the Outer Hebrides alone! Save them for another trip :) Skye doesn't have too many beaches but it has the most spectacular mountains and castles.

You are come home I find!

I hope your little daughter will be better soon. Better though that she has chickenpox early.

I am indeed home and there should be a card winging it's way to you in the post. Thank you for my lovely Easter card btw :)

Definitely better to get chickenpox sooner rather than later but it's not much fun at any age. What would Dr Maturin recommend for itches?!

That is so nice of you! :D

I hope you and partner have already had chickenpox?

Oatmeal baths, keeping fingernails short, cool compresses? I am not certain calamine lotions were invented then.

We have. I just hope neither of us are unfortunate enough to get it again!

Finger nails cut, cool compresses applied!

You might be able to avoid it. I hope the itching will not be too bad for the little lady.

Welcome back! Sorry to hear about your daughter, but as other people have said it's better to have it when she is young! I myself got it maybe before going to the elementary school and have no bitter memory of it. I hope her chickenpox would not become bad.

And thank you for the beautiful picture. Have you taken this by yourself? What a beautiful place... I would really like to visiting the Hebrides some day!

Definitely better to have chickenpox when you're young. I had it while I was at university and it was horrible!

I did, and it is a very beautiful place indeed. I'll try and post some more pics later in the week.

I'm looking forward to seeing your photos! And if you don't mind, wouldn't you give me the name of this beach? I'd like to check it on Google map.

The beach is called Traigh na Berie in Gaelic or Reef in English. It's not named on Google maps but you can see it here.

I hope you do get a chance to visit one day, it's so beautiful.

There's another even bigger beach called Ardroil just round the peninsula here. This is where the Viking Lewis Chessmen, pictured in my icon, where found.

The colour of the sea on the west coast of the Hebrides is amazing, every shade of green and blue. It's always freezing though!

oh, chicken pox! Wishing you luck, there.

I've mostly been at my seasonal temp job all week (it's tax-related). Managed to hook one of my friends there on Hornblower - baited her in with my two smutty fics first, and then lent her the box set. She's entranced. I also had to write a very dull research paper for one of my classes (where the citations took twice as long as the writing) and do a take-home final, which cut into my writing time.

I did, however, have a Date on Friday night. More I cannot relate outside a careful filter!

Chicken pox has turned out to be not so bad. Daughter seems to have got away with a mild dose but she is still quarantined and starting to go a bit stir crazy!

Well done on converting another Hornblower fangirl! We really should start awarding honours for services to the fandom :D

A Friday Night Date eh?! Good on you! Sounds much more exciting than dull research papers. Hope you have more of the former and less of the latter!

It's positively hilarious listening to her have all the textbook fangirl reactions in sequence. Now if I could only drag her onto LJ as well as tumblr...

Gorgeous picture that! It's not unlike the landscape around here, except without all the black sand. The water is such a vivid colour.

You haven't missed much from me. :) I've been mostly mired in a hideous essay and an equally hideous cold. Recovering from both now.

Oh dear, hope your daughter's alright. I agree with the commends above on how it is best she has it while she is young, but that's small consolation for her, I'm sure.

I remember being itchy when I had chickenpox. I was in first grade and ended up having a bunch of the old childhood diseases that year. Everything except the mumps, I think. Anyway, as I grow older I wonder and worry a little about shingles... perhaps I should get the shot.

I'm glad daughter has got chicken pox out of the way now, it's a horrible thing to have when you're older. I was 21 when I got it!

I'm not sure you can get shots for this kind of thing over here. Sounds like a good idea if you can get one. I had a poor unfortunate friend who had shingles at school when he was 16!

All the pictures I have ever seen of Iceland very much remind me of the Outer Hebrides, that's one of the reasons I've always wanted to visit :)

Hope you're now fully recovered from the hideousness of colds and essays.

Daughter has pretty much recovered from the chicken pox but now seems to be suffering from a bad dose of cabin fever ;)
