Last week I buggered up my back and ever since then it has been an almighty pain. It's just one of these things that happens from time to time so I am now going through the almighty palaver of trying to get re-assigned to the excellent (and rather cute) NHS physio that fixed me last time.

In the meantime, the lovely fangirls have been on hand with "helpful" medical advice. [livejournal.com profile] esmerelda_t suggested drugs and alcohol. Okay, maybe the alcohol was my idea, but [livejournal.com profile] esmerelda_t definitely suggested the drugs. [livejournal.com profile] nodbear, on the other hand, suggested a baronetcy.

In 1796, in recognition of his heroic rescue of passengers and troops from the East Indiaman Dutton which had run aground on the rocks below the Citadel in Plymouth Sound, Pellew was created Baronet of Treverry. In the words of Pellew's biographer C. Northcote Parkinson:

Pellew was unaffectedly pleased to be made a baronet. As he himself put it, this promotion "cured his back" which had been bruised by the mainmast of the Dutton.

I wonder how long the waiting list is to get a baronetcy on the NHS?!

You totally deserve it. (The baroncy, not the back.)

I'm not sure what I would do with a baronetcy tbh! I could do without the dodgy back though!

Any physio would do! Though a cute one is always a bonus ;)

Maybe it works only for backs bruised by mainmasts?
*brings rum and hugs* *gently*

Perhaps lesser honours are effective for more lubberly injuries?

Thank you for the rum and the hugs :)

ROFL!! I am sorely tempted to reel off that lot next time I have to call the self referral phone line XD

Meanwhile, diclofenac is good but a cute physio is gooder. IMHO :-)
I think I'll hold out for the cute physio, diclofenac makes me feel yeuch!

Thank you for the advice. I'm sure Dr Maturin would approve!

I shall write to my MP at once demanding he finds out why this is not available on the NHS!

At least I only suggested prescription drugs, even if I did suggest you procure them by pilfering!

I suspect for some MPs baronetcies may well be available on the NHS!

Yes, it we just ignore the issue of theft, it was a perfectly reasonable suggestion. Especially when combined with alcohol.

Don't even worry, Anteros. Dr Clive is on his way. He has enlisted Lt Buckland to rub your back for you!

This is why the British ruled the world for so long. It's your excellent healthcare system. Would a knighthood heal polio, I wonder? Is that the reason why you still have aristocracy in the UK? It's a fully organic and homeopathic formula to fight off a wide range of ailments. And you should totally apply for a baronetcy.

By Jove! I do believe you may be on to something there!

And you should totally apply for a baronetcy.
