My fledgling CSF collection
Feb. 11th, 2010 09:31 pmSo yesterday lunch time I went to the nearest second hand book shop to my office, the splendid Britannia Panoptican Charity Shop, to see if I could pick up any CSF. I was a bit disappointed that the only edition they seemed to have was a rather dull 1954 Reprints Society hardback of Lieutenant Hornblower that was missing its dustjacket. I decided to get it anyway so I took it to the desk and asked if they had any more. "Oh aye" said the guy "I've got a whole box of that stuff downstairs". So I spent the rest of my lunch hour digging through a box full of dusty Bolitho, Ramage and Fox paperbacks (who are these guys??) and the entire Polldark series, and uncovered the following...
I couldn't get a copy of Mr Midshipman Hornblower so I've ordered a copy from Green Metropolis books. It's a 1969 paperback but I don't know which publisher. Hope it arrives soon!
![]() Pan Books, 1974 edition. There's no other word for it, this one is just camp. |
![]() Penguin Books, Peacock 1969 edition. This is in really poor condition but it has line drawn illustrations. What can I say? I'm a sucker for line drawings. |
|
![]() Pan Books, 1959 edition. How could you not love this? |
![]() Lieutenant Hornblower, rear view ;) |
![]() Penguin Books, 1975 editions. I'm guessing these are the editions They are indeed very lovely. Think I shall have to hunt down some more of these. |

I'm ashamed to say I have all of these except the first. :D Though I ruined my two copies of the Penguin 1975 editions (yes they were the ones I was talking about!), good on you for finding beautiful copies!

Lol! Okay, time for you to fess up, how many CSF books do you own?
I was delighted to find the 1975 penguins. I'll definitely be looking for more!
