Is there an app for that?
Jun. 22nd, 2012 10:35 amMy dear partner has recently invested in a new Samsung Galaxy SII and since then he has been downloading apps like there's no tomorrow. His most recent aquisition is an app called Eight Bells which, yep you've guessed it, rings the bells of the watch. Partner is delighted by this and is insisting on using it. Thankfully the app has the sophistication, and partner the decency, to set the volume of each individual bell, so he has set the middle watch bells to silent (on pain of being banished to sleep in the hammock in the attic.) However I was still woken today at three bells morning watch by the sound of the watch bell tolling. Honestly, some people take Age of Sail fandom far too seriously! Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off for a snooze....

Date: 2012-06-23 08:08 am (UTC)(I apologies for husbands rude language. Hope Archie is not shocked!) The bell system is not really used now, but some ships still have it play, so husband is used to it. To me, when I was visiting his ship, it seemed things were always buzzing, and ringing. Captain is still piped aboard. When husband left after retirement they piped him off-- I cried.

Awww, I'm not surprised, that must have been really moving.
