Well we have now navigated Loch Ness without running foul of Nessie, and we have successfully hauled our boat up a flight of five locks at Fort Augustus. I was hauling the bowline and bloody heavy it was too! We also stopped off at Urquhart Castle on the shores of Loch Ness where the sun obligingly came out and made the whole scene look like the lid of a shortbread tin!

That's our boat on the left, isn't it cute? :)

PS Sorry I've not managed to reply to comments, phone signal is patchy round here.

Did you sing while hauling the bowline? Did you think of W Bush? That view is ridiculously pretty. I particularly like the stripy clouds in the distance.

I didn't sing because the sides of the locks were steep and slippy and I was trying very hard not to fall in. I did think of Mr Bush though :)

Definitely worth coming back for a visit! We haven't even had many midgies this year!

Beautiful! When you see it in the sunshine, it's almost hard to believe in monsters, isn't it? :D

It reminds me a bit of our Rhine valley here. The banks are steeper, but the vegetations looks much alike, I think, and there are castle ruins there as well. :)

Nessie is a very shy monster, we haven't seen scale nor tail of her :}

I think the Great Glen probably is rather like the Rhine in places!

Oooh, wonderful! I love the sky, and colours, and there's even a shadow on the hill's slope! And for some reason, that gangway keeps catching my eye. :}

What a lovely picture! I have been to Loch Ness and Urquhart Castle just once on my first trip to UK many many many years ago and at that time the sky was gloomy, I remember. I'd like to visit there again...

The sky is invariably gloomy at Urquhart Castle, it's very unusual to see it like this! It was very grey and overcast when we arrived but the weather can change so quickly that we had brilliant blue skies by the time we left.
