The National Historic Ships Comission have just posted the shortlist for their annual photograph competition. (Remember the one that recommended you buy your own photography boat ;) As usual they're all stunning. Here's a few of my favourites.

Stunning. I looked at each one and thought 'I like that one best, no wait, that one..."

Heh. I did exactly the same! Though the more I look at them, the more I think Fastnet and the rope might just be my favourites.

Heh, I wouldn't like to be a juror... I love the lighthouse, the rope, and the sunny sail too!

Aye, it'll be a tough call picking a winner from this lot!

They're all beautiful - who would have thought a picture of rope could look so good? - but the Loch Linnhe one makes me itch to get into a boat and sail away (isn't it Loch Linnhe that David Balfour crosses when he's looking for Alan Breck?)

I'm afraid I'll have to let our resident RLS expert [livejournal.com profile] katriona_s answer that one, it's years since I've read Kidnapped! I think it's quite likely though, Loch Linnhe is the long sea loch at the western end of the Great Glen. Fort William sits right at the head of the loch.

ETA Yes, the rope is amazing isn't it? So simple but so gorgeous.
