I have been led to believe by all and sundry that Midshipman Kennedy's only appearance in CSF is the "famous" bowing and hat flourishing scene at the beginning of The Man Who Felt Queer. I have been misinformed.

Why did nobody tell me that Midshipman Kennedy also makes a crucial reappearance in The Frogs and the Lobsters? So critical is he to this chapter that he is even given the first line:

"They're coming," said Midshipman Kennedy.

This is followed several paragraphs later by:

"I'd like to see him laying aloft on a stormy night," muttered Kennedy. "D'ye think he could take the maintops'l earring?"

And there you have it. Two whole lines!

I suppose it's a vain hope that Kennedy makes other unscheduled appearances throughout the series that nobody's told me about? ;)

Oh I don't remember that! Though not surprising since I'd only read Midshipman once. XD Should read it more often though, since it's one of the three books that Pellew features in.

I didn't get as far as that when I read Mr Midshipman. :P

Maybe he's like Waldo and you just need to look for him, keep your eyes peeled for, "Bush entered the cabin on Hornblower's command, and was surprised to see Kennedy lounging in the Captain's hammock, thinking no more of it, he turned to address Hornblower."

:P

I'm nothing if not persistent!

Oh yes yes yes! What a wonderful idea. I'll keep my eyes peeled and if I think I spot Kennedy I'll let you know :D Although obviously Hornblower's hammock is the obvious place for him to turn up!

Alas, no. They're his two/three great moments of glory.

Awww are you sure?

I think I prefer [livejournal.com profile] esmerelda_t's suggestion! Although wasn't it your good self who invented imaginary Archie? Perhaps if I imagine him hard enough while I'm reading he'll appear?? I live in hope :)
