My clock tells me it is New Year already where you guys are. Does 2013 feel minty fresh?
And, a tall dark man you say? (Not a small reddish one, or a large reddish one, or a small tawny one, but a tall, dark, curly haired, Naval gentleman? hmm, where will we find one of those?)
They are playing vuvuzela outside-- and they have finally stopped playing the damn Christmas music.
Yes! It's now 2013. Clear and fresh and the stars were shining at the bells. We opened the window to let the old year our and the new year in. No first footing this year though, partner is working and has to be up at some ungodly hour in the morning.
And, a tall dark man you say? (Not a small reddish one, or a large reddish one, or a small tawny one, but a tall, dark, curly haired, Naval gentleman? hmm, where will we find one of those?) Hmmm.....I can't think. If you find one, send him my way when you're done!
It is going to be a good year. Thank goodness for that! I'm certainly glad to see the back of the last one. Hope it's a good one for you when it comes :)
Oops, I haven't got the userpics on this account, but, as Eglantine says, a tall, dark, curly-haired naval officer ought to just fit the bill for first-footing!
I wrote New Year's kisses into the end of the Christmas story I just sold, so I re-read them today. Between that and the mistletoe, it let them get away with more than they'd otherwise have dared!
A tall, dark, curly-haired naval officer ought to just fit the bill for first-footing! One like this? New Year's kisses are always a good excuse for... ;)
Over here it was rather lame, no tall dark, nor fair strangers at all :) But we had fireworks for free from my window, drank some sparkly, had some fun.
Of course 2013 will be great. I changed my icon :)
at chrismas, we wondered the anglo-saxon coal thing with my sister :D to us, it seemed like a weird thing that santa would give out coal for bad kids, when coal is rather useful thing to have in your grill or fireplace... even in dickens's times...
in finland, it is said santa would give out rod for the parents of mean children x)
when coal is rather useful thing to have in your grill or fireplace Yes, that was the original idea of brining coal with you when you went out first footing. You put a lump of coal in the hearth of every house you visited to help keep the fire burning throughout the year. I remember folk doing it when I was a kid.
In Scotland, Santa is supposed to bring naughty children....nothing!
A very happy new year (or, as we say, 'gelukkig nieuwjaar') to you too, dear! May your fondest wishes come true.
Hmm, I think I would prefer the tall dark stranger. ;-)
Over here New Year's Eve means drinking too much champagne (as it does everywhere else) and eating oliebollen, which are deep fried sweet dumplings filled with raisins and currants.
as we say, 'gelukkig nieuwjaar' I'm not even going to attempt to pronounce that!! :}
Hmm, I think I would prefer the tall dark stranger. Tall dark strangers are very much in demand this year. Luckily I may have one left...
oliebollen, which are deep fried sweet dumplings filled with raisins and currants. Ooh these sounds yummy! I don't have much of a sweet tooth but I love anything with raisins and currents. And of course too much champagne always helps :)
One of my Finnish friends once told me the Dutch sound like hobbits throwing up! No idea where he got that idea from, but that at least gives you an idea of what that phrase sounds like when spoken. :-P
Tall dark strangers are very much in demand this year. Luckily I may have one left... You do? Mind sending him in this direction? ;-)
Oliebollen are delicious! But then I am like you when it comes to raisins and currants. I, for one, am not a big fan of chocolate but I adore Cadbury Fruit and Nut!
