Earlier this week the Navy Records Society launched their new web portal Navy Records Online, an online archive of miscellaneous British naval records including charts, portraits, cartoons, logs, letters, diaries, battle plans, sketchbooks, photograph albums and videos. Unfortunately the archive is locked behind a paywall, though at £20 per anumm it costs considerably less than full membership of the Navy Records Society. Full members allegedly get access to both the NRS and Navy Records Online but I haven't managed to get my NRS login to work with the online archive yet. I'll contact their webmaster and report back once I've got access.

That's what I'm hoping. I'll let you know if I ever manage to get in there for a wallow!

Fascinating. Pity they have no free trial. The optional pay-for-an-hour system would be nice too, apart from the membership-with-subscription option.

Aye, a free trial would be a really good idea, I'm sure they'd get more members that way too. At the moment you have to pay the membership fee without really knowing what you're going to get for your money!
