Hello my dears, hope you've all been having a good week? I'm just back from Stornoway and looking forward to catching up over the next few days :) We had a good break, the weather was glorious and we had two flat calm crossings. Can't ask for more than that! I'll be back with a proper update and obligatory pics of sea an' hills an' shit shortly, but in the meantime, here's the Buachaille Etive Mor looking glorious.

I'm not an experienced climber at all and this mountain treacherous in winter so I will content myself with admiring it from the bottom!

I'd wait until the snow has melted, too! But you wouldn't have to really climb up there, would you? I mean, with a rope and stuff? It looks as if one would just be able to scramble up there without having to do actual rock climbing.

The route up the front of the Buachaille, which you can see in this pic, is graded as a severe rock climb, so yes, you'd definitely need ropes and stuff. There's a famous scrambling route up a ridge to the left and I think you may be able to walk up the back. It can be a dangerous mountain at any time though as the conditions change so rapidly, sadly it's claimed a few lives over years.

Yeah, the front looks a bit like the Matterhorn… I wouldn't go up there. :D I wish we had bare mountains like that over here. There are no real scrambling sites at all around here.

Wow! That is huge. are those buildings at the foot of it? My sense of scale is a little confused. And that sky!

It is indeed huge! Over a thousand metres huge. I'm not entirely sure what the black thing at the foot of the mountain is but I think it's farm equipment rather than buildings. I took this picture from the van window as we drove past so I didn't get a close look :}

Btw Buachaille Etive Mor means the Great Shepherd of Etive, which is the name of the glen. There is also a Buchaille Etive Beag which is the Little Shepherd!

I should think there are definitely dwarves under there! No dragons though, they're further up Glencoe in the Hidden Valley. They're very shy dragons ;)

You should definitely visit the Hebrides one day, there's no where else quite like them and I defy anyone to find more beautiful beaches.

Oh yes. Highland dragons are very shy and retiring types :)

I think it's farm equipment rather than a building, but I could be wrong. I took this from the window of our camper van as we drove past :} The Buachaille is a very striking mountain isn't it?
