I'm just back from a few days camping in Galloway. We had glorious sunshine on Saturday and Sunday and howling gales and pouring rain last night and today. Pretty typical for a Scottish summer really! The pictures below were all taken at the Mull of Galloway, the point where seven tides are reputed to meet. I've posted a few pictures of the lighthouse before but I've never seen the incredible tidal race appear so clearly. Several currents collide south of the peninsula causing whirlpools and unpredictable tides that are avoided by all but the most experienced sailors.

I thought of you and the fangirls today when I saw a transcript of a WWI letter referring to a dangerous Archie. Must post about it over the next few days!

What a beautiful scenery! The ocean, sky, and walking path on the hill... I really want to visit this kind of place to stroll around...

Galloway is certainly a very beautiful part of the country, and that's a Stevenson lighthouse too!

You can see the collision of the different waters. There are a few places like that near the Cape and Islands, and near Block Island and Point Judith. Rich fishing there, but scary sailing....

It's amazing you can juts stand on the cliff top and watch the whilpools forming. There are lots of fishing guides to the area and they all warm boats to avoid the Mull of Galloway due to the extremely dangerous condidtions. Incidentally the mother of all Scottish whirlpools is the Corryvreckan between Jura and Scarba, it's the third largest whirlpool in the world!
