I'm back!

Many thanks for all the lovely birthday cards, pressies, LJ messages and v-gifts that were waiting for me when I got back. You're all too kind. Consider yourselves soundly hugged! So what have you guys been up to for the last fortnight? Hope everyone's well?

We had a lovely break in the Hebrides despite sporadic interruptions from on-going work woes. The weather was mixed, nothing like as hot as the rest of the UK, but we had a few fantastic days that were hot enough for swimming in the river by the beach :)

I'm only home for a couple of days before heading off down to Portsmouth to meet up with nodbear for the Port Towns and Urban Cultures Conference later this week. Can't wait! I'll post some pics when I get back, but in the meantime here's a few seconds of the view outside our front door in Harris.

Was it at least dry for the 2 weeks? Can't ask for more than that from a west coast summer after all!

We had a few days of rain but we also had about four days of really heavy fog which is really unusual for the islands. Typically the weather brightened up the day before we were due to leave :} The good days more than make up for the fog though!

The heat had broken here today. Rained last night for the first time in ages. Hazel is willing to go further than the nearest gutter.

Still, that little vid looks serene and cool. That looks like a perfect place to put toes in water. I hope you had a lot of fun and adventures, and got to see old friends.

You must be pretty well tired out. Somehow the part where you come home and do laundry seems to loom at the end of such trips.

The water is very tempting isn't it? It's so clear. It's also bloody freezing whatever the weather!

We've just about finished unpacking now, so I've got two days to do all my washing before repacking for Portsmouth.

Hope you guys are surviving the heat and Hazel is feeling a little cooler now.

It's very hypnotic isn't it? On the odd occasions when I have trouble sleeping, which isn't often, I try to imagine the sound of the sea on this shore.
