[livejournal.com profile] nodear and I bumped into Admiral James Saumarez while we were in Portsmouth last weekend. You've got to hand it to the man, he knows how to strike a pose!

I'd love to see him being told "Move over, man! I want to see the ships." :>

Judging by his look of mingled conempt and disdain, I suspect that's exactly what he's just been told!

Ned writes

Just so, dear Anteros, just so

still it could have been Bridport ...an Admiral must be grateful for small mercies

There is nothing wrong with a smug toad. He probably is just feeling blue...

What is it with this pose - Cuddy's elegant legs are more suited to it than Saumarez
Mercifully no artist ever suggested Ned's well made frame was ever displayed thus :)

Ned from that angle would attract the attention sure thing;)

The icon doesn't really capture it but this photo suggests to me that Mr Lindsay had been studying the iconography of the age :)

This reminded me of the admirals underthings you guys went off on, that time. Did this guy not have a part in that?

(I can never read of Collingwood now without thinking about his underpants!)

It was Saumarez that started it!! Him with his fancy ethical langerie firm.

I think he's still hipped about his barge. (Reference the sample chapter of Sailing Dangerous Waters: Another Stone Island Sea Story I posted a few weeks ago.)
