This rather frightening character was lurking round the back of the lecture theatre at Les Cordeliers in Paris. Waiting to prey on any students who doze off in their lectures perhaps? ;)

It doesn't help that it looks like he was holding on to a crutch, that ruins the whole "scary" aspect a bit.
Les Cordelier has been a medical school since the late 19th century hence the crutch! The statue itself is huge, well over 12 feet high. Not what you want to find lurking round your lecture theatre! Here he is in all his glory :}
