Collateral Damage

Finally, finally I've got most of my work deadlines out of the way. It's been a very long end, to a very, very long year. I try not the let RL bollox spill over into this journal, which after all is for navyboys, fangirling and nonsense, but it has to be said, the last two years have been completely and utterly shit workwise. Seems like I am collateral damage in the battle to dismantle higher education innovation. I'll spare you the gory details, suffice to say it's been a nightmare, and I suspect there will be more fun and games to come in the new year.

Aaanyway....

There's plenty to be thankful for; family, friends, fangirling and, of course, the Indyboys. So enough of my whining, how the hell are you? And what have I been missing over the last few weeks?!

It's his "Windswept and Interesting" look. Do you like it? Also, when I was screencapping this I realised that Archie is master of the forced smile. When he is trying to hide his feelings he adopts a most unconvincing smile. It's heartbreaking.

Good :) Btw, in amongst the chaos I managed to despatch the jolly boat, with a small parcel of silly wee things.

Yes. As always.

I was a little sad last week because C had a seizure. We had paramedics come. Fire dept came too, as always, in the fire truck. I am not sure why, every state is different. But six men with bags of stuff, and boots certainly take up a lot of our living room. She was here at home, and because of that we just sent her to bed under our observation.

It was a fairly long one, 5 minutes at least. Is kind of spooky, afterwards even. We watched her go, in the space of five minutes from not being able to remember what year it was, or her own birthday, to being her usual sharp tongued, teenage self. She cut her head a little on the side of her desk.

Now that she is older it less likely to happen when she is up a tree, but the subway platform is no better. I worry.

She is totally fine now. She was back at school the next morning. It may well be another year before it comes again. (My hand on my wooden desk, as I speak.)

But because I am a dork that way, I thought of Archie, and wondered again how much of his acid whiplash word choice was because of that, the first way that he was defenseless.

Sorry to hear about C, hope you've all recovered. It must be very distressing for everyone. No wonder you worry. Why on earth do they send a fire truck though? That's very odd! I hope you don't have to pay for the firemen :/

Taking things easy sounds grand! I have to start two new projects next week and then I'm off for a fortnight. Work has a nasty holiday of creeping into holidays but I'm determined not to work over Christmas and New Year.

You two would be awesome private detectives! But Magnum is in Hawaii, so maybe you would have to go there for a month or so, (just to get the ambiance right.) I am sure you could teach Barty to surf...

We, dear nodbear and I, bought a tiny christmas tree :) His name is Archie. But I think he doesn't like his purple outfit very much :) He dropped two chocolates and a glass heart already lol!

At least the navyboys have been a little consolation but what you say about the whole situation seems to chime with a few other friends in related lines of work.

Navyboys are always a consolation :) It's funny though, I wrote a post about the media reaction to the Glasgow shipyard redundancies for the Port Towns folk recently and couldn't help reflecting on the lack of coverage of redundancies in the education sector.

I hope so too! We've already been enjoying the lovely sweets you sent. Daughter's friends were astonished by the strawberry flavoured kitkats, the little ship biscuits are almost gone already and I may have eaten most of the chewy grape sweeties myself :} I sent a little parcel off to you last weekend, I hope it arrives before Christmas!

Sorry life has been so crappy. Nuffink much to report here except a lack of hours in the day and how England can't play cricket.

Sheesh. Knocking on was the least of it. We were there, & it was an abysmal game. I hope both teams were suitably mortified. Don't think I've ever seen such blatant time wasting. Glasgow need to get a grip, they started the season really well, but they've completely lost it in the last few. Think Big Al's days are numbered.
