Splendid Isolation

Earlier this evening, I waved partner and daughter off on a three week trip to New Zealand. They're going over for a surprise visit for FiL's 70th birthday. I am not going owing to; 1. too much work, 2. lack of funds, 3. lack of enthusiasm for family gatherings :}

I'm generally very happy with my own company, but there's no denying that I'll miss them both enormously. It was strange coming back to an empty house after I saw them off at the airport. It's usually me that flies away! However there was a lovely surprise waiting for me when I got home from marine_lapwing and the Russian Hornblower fangirls (of which more later).

Needless to say I'm not going to let the opportunity of three free weeks go to waste. Next Wednesday I'm off down to Exeter with dear nodbear to spend three days trawling through the Pellew archive at Devon Records Office. I can't wait! I don't usually get my hands on the original documents, so this will be a real treat for me :) The following weekend I am going to see Glasgow Warriors playing Toulon and then I'm off over to Edinburgh to visit esmerelda_t and see High Spirits, the Thomas Rowlandson exhibition at the Palace of Holyroodhouse. Then the following week I'm going down to the University of Warwick for the Sea Narratives Symposium.

Hopefully I'll also have a chance to finish some fics that have been languishing in my drafts folder for ages and to spam you guys with some of the stuff I didn't have a chance to post at the end of December. You have been warned! :}

Eek! No pressure then ;) Was catching up with some research today, nodbear and I have been sadly neglecting the the historical Indyboys of late and are trying to catch up with our writing schedule again. I want to try and write an annual review of following_sea too though since I didn't have a chance to write one in time for New Year.

Will do! We're also going to see some rugby while we're down in Exeter. Believe it or not Glasgow are playing a Heineken Cup game down there that weekend. What's the chances of that?! More than the chance of them actually winning

Awww bless! Has to be said Richie's been rather overshadowed by his wee bro recently. Though like most of the Glasgow side, he's out injured at the moment :/

I've now been home alone for four days and still haven't had a chance to get near any fic writing! I live in hope though, and I did start our next book chapter so that's something :}

Hehe! I've tried to cram a couple of months of activity into three weeks! Never let it be said that I let an opportunity go to waste ;) I can't deny that I miss having the troops around, but I'm also really looking forward to doing some of the things I don't normally have a chance to do. I even went to a yoga class tonight!
