Thank you again!
Jul. 26th, 2014 01:05 amI'm back! Actually I got back from holiday on Monday night but it's been non stop ever since. Work is still crazy busy and we've just had builders arrive to start work on an extension and remodelling the ground floor of our house, so everything is just a wee bit chaotic :} There's also the small matter of the Commonwealth games going on in Glasgow right now which is a rather enjoyable added distraction. (We have a group from Mount Kenya University camped out in the park beside where we live). Also the in-laws are staying this weekend. A quiet life would be boring, right?!
Aaaanyway...we had a great holiday at home the Hebrides and it was a joy to come back to Glasgow to find a veritable pile of cards and parcels. So thank you
donnaimmaculata for the postcard (love the phallic monument),
joyful_molly for the birthday wishes, and
nodbear,
mylodon,
kittycallum and
esteven for the fab gifts which included a very nautical mug (from Germany), some lovely tea (from Canada) and a copy of The Mariners Mirror (from the UK). Perfect! Either you guys planned this, or you all know me too well :D Thank you all so much!

Hope you guys are all well and I'll look forward to catching up with everyone's posts over the next couple of weeks.

The museum is great, esp their paintings. After all, the Dutch were the marine painters of the world in the 17th/18th century. And Amsterdam is worth a visit anyway.

Date: 2014-07-27 10:02 pm (UTC)Also... just a thought, but is there a possibility there would be anything navy-wise connected with Waterloo/end of Napoleonic Wars/future of the navy you might want to give a paper on at a conference in Bath next year? Because it's been suggested to me that I very well be organising such a conference for my uni next year. *hopefuls*

I hope the builders won't be giving you too much grief.
