A few pictures I took while I was at home in the Hebrides a couple of weeks ago. Mostly beaches as usual, plus a couple of pics of the Hebridean Celtic Festival. The picture of the sailing dinghies in the harbour isn't mine as I was in one of the boats at the time!

Btw Mac an t-Srònaich was a 19th century outlaw who was said to have attacked people crossing the moors around Stornoway. When we were kids he was used as a general purpose bogey man to threaten children into submission: "If you don't behave, Mac an t-Srònaich will come and get you!"

I know I've asked this before, but: How is Scotland so beautiful? Did you guys make a deal with the devil who made you as appealing as possible so that you'd tempt as many tourists over who then spend their holidays trudging through horizontal rain?

There's a very old and entirely unoriginal joke that goes something along these lines:

When God created Scotland, he looked down on it with great satisfaction. Finally he called the Archangel Gabriel to have a look.
"Just see," said God. "This is the best yet. Splendid mountains, beautiful scenery, brave men, fine women, nice cool weather. And I've given them beautiful music and a special drink called whisky. Try some."
Gabriel took an appreciative sip. "Excellent," he said. "But haven't you perhaps been too kind to them? Won't they be spoiled by all these things? Should there not be some drawback?"
"Just wait till you see the neighbours they're getting," said God.

I'm sorry, I couldn't help myself...

who then spend their holidays trudging through horizontal rain?
while getting eaten arrive by midgies

Lovely pics.

The concept of the local bogey man always amuses me. Like children in what was the Persian empire are still told that Iskander (Alexander) will get them. :)

Thank you m'dear!

I'm fascinated by local bogeymen too, but I must admit I think I would rather that Alexander came and got me than Mac an t-Srònaich :}

It's so beautiful! Beach, clouds, boats and a lot of blue :)

We also have our own local bogey :) Children are told that they will take away the Gypsies.

Thank you! We can always guarantee beaches, clouds and boats in the Hebrides. The blue skies are a bit more unpredictable though :}

Thank you hun :) Here's the link to the Hebridean Celtic Festival, it's an annual music festival that runs for three days every July in Stornoway. It's a pretty big event now, but it's still very laid back and a lot of fun. It also coincides with the Sail Stornoway maritime festival which is an added bonus!

The sky is absolutely gorgeous, and even better when reflected in water. I think I love the Ullapool photo the best, but it's a hard choice. ^^

Thank you m'dear! Ullapool was looking particularly picturesque the night we were there. The pictures of the sunset over Loch Broom were also taken from the campsite in Ullapool. Sadly we couldn't sit outside our campervan to watch the sun going down as we would have been eaten alive by midgies!

Wonderful photos... and knowing how photos always flatten the feel, the actual place must be amazing!
