Dulce Et Decorum Est read by Sam West for the No Glory In War campaign.

Sam West is a vocal supporter of No Glory In War, you can find out more about the campaign and read their open letter here.

One of the most powerful readings of that poem (and a sort of Wilfred Owen accent!)

The story behind the poem always gets to me as it was a response to Jessie Pope and her awful, jingoistic poetry.

Yes, and it's also powerful antidote to some of the more celebratory aspects of the recent commemorations.

Can you recommend a decent biography of Owen btw? I know a lot less about his life than I should.

Dominic Hibberd's. Both his biography of him and his account of Owen's last year.

You're welcome. Every year I wear a hand made red poppy that I bought in Stornoway, but my donation goes to the white poppy campaigns. I've been uncomfortable with the role of the British Legion for a long time owing to their poppy campaign sponsorship deals with weapons manufacturers BAE Systems and Thales, to say nothing of their bowdlerisation of No Man's Land this year.
