Daughter's first fandom?
Jun. 5th, 2010 01:03 pmGot home from work the other day and discovered daughter had arranged this little tableau on the windowsill.

Suspect she may be showing tendencies of becoming a Temeraire fan ;) Pirate ship courtesy of dad, fluorescent dragons courtesy of Kinder Surprise!

Date: 2010-06-06 06:26 pm (UTC)Temeraire and Toothless actually have much in common. You'll find out when you read the books... :p
and how you make the ships move ;)
The dragon is towing it, of course, and all the pirates have to blow very hard into the sails to help him.

Date: 2010-06-07 06:30 pm (UTC)I wonder, supposing they were able to blow hard enough, would the blowing actually work, or would it be a Munchhausen thing? =)

Date: 2010-06-05 08:06 pm (UTC)I think she could do a lot worse than Temeraire! I'm tempted by the books myself.

Me too! They sound like a lot of fun. I sooo need to post a reading list, I can't keep track of all the books people keep recommending!

Date: 2010-06-06 06:28 pm (UTC)There are too few decent writers in that fandom, and the majority’s otp is one I don’t like at all.

and the garden looks wonderful :) - great potential for all sorts horticultural I think.
you could always add a few accessories of course - like these souvenir Algiers cannon which - er - slipped the admiralty's supply books and ended up on the terrace of an admiral's house in retirement - which is where they still are to this day

Suspect garden has considerably more potential than I have time :}

Hahaha! I suppose that's the AoS equivalent of keeping a WWII service revolver! He really was a bit of a lad wasn't he?! Our next door neighbours have decking with a dinky little railing around it. Partners and I have decided to go for a replica quarterdack instead, complete with binnacle and carondades. I asked if we could also decorate it with a couple of cute lieutenants but I got a stern look :}

Date: 2010-06-07 01:16 pm (UTC)what about a ship's bell and then you could ring that at appropriate times ...
sorry these don't really go with neighbours do they? I have often wondered if one can get a ships bell sounnd file and have on ones laptop as one of the sounds - like for you've got mail or similar
Yes, still a bit of a lad even at 60, wounded in action and with a viscountcy to live up to. Never changed in that sense, the fundamental Ned inside My Lord Exmouth
Intersting to know the story of how the cannons got there and which poor seaman were bribed to transport them

Ooh! You've reminded me of something I meant to post a few weeks ago and forgot all about. More later...
