Fourteen?!

I've just counted and I make it fourteen new pieces of writing that have been posted in this fandom in the last five days. Fourteen?! Seven of these are birthday gifts for Lord Hornblower and seven appear to be spontaneous offerings. And we've had everything; bookverse, movieverse, sonnets, drabbles, horoscopes, poetry, dark and light LKUs, fluff, smut, angst, slash, crack, gen and the most beautifully moving first time fic I have ever read. There's even been a sighting of that rarest of rare characters in this fandom, bookverse Kennedy!

I've said it many times before, when I stumbled across Hornblower fandom, while I was in awe of all the amazing fic that had been written, I was also very sad to have missed the boat by several years at least. Looks like I was wrong. It seems I came aboard just in time! So thanks to everyone for all this amazing creativity and special thanks to those that carried on writing through the doldrums.

Sorry, this is a completely cheesy post but what the hell!

Did you not help trigger the resurgence by writing wonderful fic and getting othersinterested? I was monitoring the fandom quietly but found without other people's enthusiasm I couldn't devote energy to it - and I was too shy to pipe up and ask if there were other people lurking. I am extremely grateful for the fandom, which reminds me of the lotr fandom around the time of the movies, but we are perpetuating this without any such motivator. I pray it continues!

Me? Nah ;) I think it's all down to folk like [livejournal.com profile] thehappyreturn, [livejournal.com profile] mylodon, [livejournal.com profile] black_hound, [livejournal.com profile] sarlania and of course [livejournal.com profile] esmerelda_t who stuck around and were kind enough to read and rec an upstart like me!

I pray it continues!
I'll raise a glass to that!

fandom moves in waves. which is actually a good thing I think. Each new influx into the fandom brings something new to the party.

I hope so! But it's all those connections back through time that really make it :)

And you so have the very best icons you know!

time for s little celebration I guess then of those who did keep going - I am like you of course another late comer - and I too used to think it wsa a shame, but I think it may actually be a great blessing to be in on a new wave- or even just a following sea- that last remark is cheesier than anything in your post and I wll now return to my lair and contemplate some of the new writing -
Lord H had a good birthday though I think

Your enthusiasm is just that catching! :)

I think it is also very much due to Sarlania’s great idea of defragmenting the fandom and concentrating all activity that in one community. Like Gaya, I don’t think I’d have bothered to write anything for one of the other comms who were pretty much deserted by the end of last year.

That is quite impressive, come to think. I've been taking something of a fandom break lately ... but I can definitely appreciate how the fandom has been revived. It was pretty quiet when I got here ... but then following_sea came to be, and HH fandom was an active place again! Your fics certainly contributed to the resurgence of fandom activity -- and I think the combination of old hands and newcomers meant that the fandom wasn't starting from scratch, nor repeating what had come before, but building a new structure on an existing foundation, as it were. At any rate, I'm very glad it's a lively place again. Like you, I wasn't sure if my latecomer status would mean that I had missed all the fun, but fortunately, it wasn't the case.

Definitely! I posted a couple of things to some of the older comms at the end of last year and it was like *tumbleweeds* So another huzzah for [livejournal.com profile] sarlania!

That's one of the things that's so lovely about [livejournal.com profile] following_sea :)
