I am going home to the Outer Hebrides tomorrow morning to visit family. This involves an eight hour drive to Ullapool followed by a three hour crossing on a CalMac ferry to Stornoway. I am not fond of CalMac ferries, I have spent too much of my life aboard them already. Now if someone could arrange for a nice frigate to come and pick us up....Mind you, I'm not sure how we would get our VW camper van on to a frigate!

As mother has no internet and the 3G signal is patchy at best up there I will be offline until the 19th although hopefully I'll manage to pick up e-mail on my phone periodically. If you'd like a postcard of fishing boats or of some of the most beautiful (and coldest!) beaches in the world PM me your address.





Look after the pretty navy boys while I'm away and don't do anything I wouldn't, or if you do, I expect to see pics! ;P

You are very perceptive (of course!) There is something about the light up there that is quite extraordinary. There is a steady migration of painters to the islands, who move there for the light.
