Pussy cat, pussy cat where have you been?
Jul. 24th, 2010 04:12 pm....I've been to London to visit the queen!
Of course I wouldn't be remotely interested in visiting the queen but I was hugely excited to meet up with
nodbear and
esmerelda_t in London on Thursday and Friday.
nodbear and I had a wonderful afternoon catching up over lunch before
esmerelda_t came to join us for a drink after work. As
nodbear has already pointed out, for some strange reason we were the only women sitting in the terrace bar overlooking the Thames pouring over a sea chart of Brest :} I particularly enjoyed the view as I'd been reading Hornblower and the Atropos and the funeral procession debacle on the flight on the way down! Three real live HH fangirls all in the same place at the same time, when was the last time that happened? It was just a shame I had to dash off for an evening work meeting. However I did manage to meet
esmerelda_t again very briefly for sushi and drinks on Friday before catching my flight home. The flight attendant who made the landing announcement when we arrived in Glasgow was a rather nice young man with a very pronounced Spanish accent. So when he said "On behalf of the crew and the cap-ee-tan...." he reminded me of the Spanish captain who Hornblower strikes his prize to in The Dutchess and the Devil ;)

A perfect spot for studying sea charts ;)

Date: 2010-07-24 09:27 pm (UTC)I would have fallen asleep in my meeting if the inconsiderate buggers hadn't been talking so loudly ;)

Exactly. Tsk! What's the city coming to? I fear both the Admiral and Lord Hornblower would be horrified.

Date: 2010-07-25 08:13 am (UTC)Archie doesn't think that is too much a problem - he is about to quote his favourite bit of Dr Donne

the thought of grumpy!Horatio leading a funeral procession up it is hilarious
It is hilarious. The bit where the funeral barge springs a leak had me snorting with laughter on the plane!

Although it has to be said, poor Horatio can be a bit of a drama queen ;)

Date: 2010-08-01 11:17 pm (UTC)Nothing at all if it took ITV to finally develop the potential of the Archie Kennedy character some fifty years later. XD

Date: 2010-08-02 12:15 pm (UTC)I quite agree! And no sooner had ITV created the lovely Mr Kennedy than the Forester estate demand they kill him off. Rotten bastards. *sulk*
