Daughter has decided she wants a new bed, gran has kindly offered to get one for her and in all innocence has suggested we look at this one:

The product description reads as follows:

The Julian Bowen Hornblower guest bed is ideal for bedrooms that are short on space. An Antique Pine cabin bed frame which transforms with ease into an additional full size single bed. Perfect bedroom addition for youngsters who like to have friends stay over.

Although the Hornblower bed frame is slightly higher than a normal single bed we think you will agree that it is still a perfectly safe height for all but the youngest of children. The guest bed is pulled out easily on castors making this a great solution for unexpected guests.

There are also 3 storage drawers built into the lower bed which is ideal for storing clothes or keeping toys tidy. The picture would indicate six drawers but the top 3 are false drawer fronts just to keep symmetry and a look that any captain would be proud of.

Supporting the mattresses is a strong sprung slatted base offering extra stability to the bedstead and sits within the frame. The natural bounce in the slats means they will adjust to your profile where you exert the most pressure.
There is no mention of whether the "unexpected guest" happens to be a cute blond lieutenant.

She suggested that one to you??
Wow, the coincidence! On a scale from one to ten, I'd say that gets a solid 15 in creepiness! ;)

Well to be fair it was on a page of half a dozen she suggested we might like to look at. It's still a bit bizarre though isn't it?!

Definitely. She could have gone looking at another store, and then it would have been Björn or Sören or something like that… ;)
Are you going to get this one??

Priceless!!!!
Isn't it just?!

I am wondering what profile will be left impressed on the mattress following the bouncing and exertion of pressure ;)

How many times do we have to tell you - not pointless at all!

Already have visions of a modern day Archie and Horatio (naval cadets?) having sleepovers in that bed.

Just you wait, I have several even more pointless posts than this lined up!

Here's Archie on a sleepover. Wonder if they got a row for giggling under the covers? ;)

Coincidence or proof you've been rumbled?

Is it just me or is that set up just waiting for someone to roll over and fall on the person on the bottom bed?

Aaaaargh!

is that set up just waiting for someone to roll over and fall on the person on the bottom bed?
Well that would certainly be unexpected for the guest! ;)

shoule this be in Brewer's Dictionary of phrase and fable as a great citation for the "I'll just be in my bunk" do we think

Noticing s sleeping Barhtolomew-lurking there amind all those sleeping Archies * enormous sigh* reminds me - what does the noble hound think of the fat pets warning out this week ?

I have consulted with Mr. Kennedy and he informs me that such advice is clearly hokum, what if Bartholomew got lost and missed his afternoon tea?! He'd need the extra pound or two to see him through!

An extra pound or two to see him through?! That's far too much to spend on afternoon tea! Mr Kennedy is clearly spoiling Bartholomew.

I think what I love most other than the comments on bounce-ability of aforementioned bed is how very practical and carefully-considered and Horatio-sounding it all is. Hornblower bed is clearly Horatio's inanimate anthropomorphic counterpart.

Isn't it?! You can just imagine small boy Horatio driving Dr Hornblower demented by demanding that he must have that specific bed and that no other will do.

He'd list all the reasons why it is the most practical too - the extra bed would be for Archie of course, should he ever decide to come over (only we know Archie will have a thing or two to say about sleeping in the extra bed ;) )

If Horatio is this bed, Archie's got to be the mattress!
