venusinfurs90 I have been trawling through my collection of sea songs. I had no idea I had so many! Most of them predate my AoS obsession by years but I suspect I should have recognised them as an early symptom of this affliction. Anyway, one of my many favourites is Eliza Carthy's version of Rolling Sea from Rogues Gallery which contains the following quite delightful verse and chorus:
Just though I'd share that with y'all. What can I say? I'm easily amused ;)
ETA Yay!!

Sailors they get all the money,
Soldiers they get none but brass,
How I love my rolling sailor,
Soldiers they can kiss my …
Oh, my little rolling sailor,
Oh, my little rolling he,
How I love my rolling sailor,
When he’s on the rolling sea.
Just though I'd share that with y'all. What can I say? I'm easily amused ;)
ETA Yay!!

Date: 2010-09-09 08:12 pm (UTC)Rogues Gallery: Pirate Ballads, Sea Songs and Chanteys is a great place to start. Don't let the fact that it was originally a Pirates of the Caribbean offshoot put you off. There are some brilliant tracks on this including some genuine bona fide nautical filth.
I can also highly recommend Anglicana by Eliza Carthy and Penguin Eggs by Nic Jones.

Agreed! Had a discussion about this when I was introducing my friend to Hornblower and we were watching The Frogs and the Lobsters. I don't care how much of a BAMF-snarky-snark-god My Lord Major E. is, the Navy still wins out over the Army any day.^^ (Just thought I'd throw in my own two pence there lol)
