*headdesk* Mr Cordingly
Sep. 10th, 2010 06:29 pmFinally, after months of prevaricating, I have started reading David Cordingly's Cochrane The Dauntless. Almost everyone I know round here has recommended it to me at some stage. Twenty pages in and what do I find? A typo. AND IT'S THE NAME OF MY HOME TOWN. Tsk!
The only time my home port gets a mention in an Age of Sail history and it's spelt wrong!! It's Stornoway not Stornaway Mr Cordingly. Masthead for you sonny!
Pedant, moi?
"In 1792 Captain Alexander Cochrane was in command of the 28-gun frigate Hind with orders to patrol the east coast of Scotland. He spent that year cruising back and forth from Berwick to Stornaway in the Western Isles."

You're telling me! Ullapool to Stornoway is bad enough.

Date: 2010-09-11 09:11 am (UTC)You know you should do a fic where Archie catches Horatio mispelling various Scottish place names and isn't amused, also you should have Horatio attempt to pronounce 'Milingavie'. :P

Hehe! Now you've got me thinking....
also you should have Horatio attempt to pronounce 'Milingavie'.
I think I shall have Archie asking Horatio to meet him on Sauchiehall Street before they go to Culzean to visit the family ;)
