*waves* Hello I'm back! My goodness you've been busy bunnies while I've been away!! Wonderful to see all the new fic, reviews and vids at [livejournal.com profile] following_sea and some contributions from new people too. How exciting :)

But most exciting of all...Bartholomew has his own tag at [livejournal.com profile] following_sea. Huzzah!! I must do something to mark this momentous occasion.

I really ought to go and unpack and wash clothes now but instead I am going to sit on my arse and read fic, catch up with comments and call [livejournal.com profile] nodear to see if the Admiral has tracked down the rascally scoundrel that had the audacity burgle her house.

Welcome back!

Lol! Seriously, I wouldn't want to inflict my baking on Bartholomew! Anyway I suspect he would never condescend to eat mere dog biscuits. Custard creams perhaps... ;)

Huh, it was my impression that he'd eat anything. ;)

I think even Bartholomew would draw the line at my baking!

Bartholomew wants to know where these custard creams he was promised are.

Are you sure Bartholomew is in a position to be making such demands? Hmn? Wouldn't want any compromising pics to appear now would we.... ;)

The question is: would he care about potentially compromising pictures if there are custard creams in it for him??

Tough call. It is a very compromising picture though ;)

Nodear ? When you mispell my name - though LJ doesn't notice- you get "no dear "- which sounds a bit sad, appropriately enough - though it may be merely descriptive. Or it might be what the admiral says on a particularly harrassing day...

Bartholomew has been pleased by the title DoD - Dog of Distinction - only later did I realise that it is an adaptation of a line from hey big Spender - could be a verse or two in there...Hey big Admiral

DS Devlin doesn't seem to have his mind fully on the job - he is still intrigued by the familiarity of that young acting lieutenant who is bouncing around- anyway they have all bunked off to a 'team meeting' which I have suspicions is taking place in the bar of the Thames Riviera round the corner

and my edition of Donne with its cover picture of the young Horatio - no sorry young John Donne - on it has gone missing - and it was certainly not my burglar who abstracted that. Bit over his head I suspect.

Awwww. We can't have that!! You are my dear, and the Admiral's and the Lieutenants' :)

Hey big Admiral
If I had even a smidgen of wit I would attempt to rewrite that song for Sir Edward!

Well in that case I suggest you go and join them immediately.

You must report the disappearance to DS Devlin immediately! My copy, the Nonsuch Library edition, has also walked. There is clearly a Donne thief on the loose!

From Big Spender eh? Well Bartholomew loves a bit of Shirley!

Clearly we will have to rewrite this song- in one form or another !

Yes - sung by that delightful lady of his old acquaintance Portsmouth Poll I would think. Strictly for limited circulation- lest Archie find out more about the Admiral's earlier nicknames...

DS Devlin has not hitherto been a Donne scholar - but he may be sufficiently curious about the disappearnances and their coincidental timing with the presence of that nice kid young Archie whatsiname... to begin to wonder...

meanwhile off to dig them all out for more duty - ie having a drink with me.

If DS Devlin does ever manage to track down your copy of Donne he may also be wondering why the bloke on the cover looks vaguely familiar! ;)

well lets see - dark eyes, dark hair, aquiline nose and wonderful long fingers;) - might that add up to anyone we know ?

Nooooooooo!!! Don't mention the fingers! I'm supposed to be having an early night tonight.

long fingers and early nights

Archie is of the opinion that the two things are not mutually imcompatible in his experience ;)

night night then - think i might just turn in now too - have sent you 42 scans of muster rolls to be going on with ...there is no hurry to be looking at them though.

Date: 2010-10-20 10:35 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] anteros-lmc.livejournal.com
Well of course I agree with Archie but the reason I am supposed to be having an early night is to SLEEP! ;)

Thank you for all your hard work at the scanner. I will resist diving into the muster book tonight otherwise I'll be here till the wee small hours!

Sleeping Archie - always a sign for a quiet night and a perfect end as it says in the night office of compline.

I shall inevitably dream os muster books I fear.

Hope you sleep well and feel rested
*sprinkles special sleep dust*

or Dr Donne in meditation 15 :

NATURAL men have conceived a twofold use of sleep; that it is a refreshing of the body in this life; that it is a preparing of the soul for the next; that it is a feast, and it is the grace at that feast; that it is our recreation and cheers us, and it is our catechism and instructs us; we lie down in a hope that we shall rise the stronger,

That's beautiful. I don't know this particular meditation but what depth of meaning and sacrifice is held in that one small phrase.

In the light of another darling sleeping Archie it is especially poignant - it is about sleep as the gift of life and as the prefiguring of death .Will send you the whole if you would like.
Sadly the magicof neither sleep dust nor Donne worked it seems - have not really risen the stronger today.Have written rant and am seeing how long can hold off sending it !

I'm sure this lovely piece must be in my own Donne collection. I'll check it when I get home, I'm in the office today.

Sadly the magicof neither sleep dust nor Donne worked it seems - have not really risen the stronger today.
Aww sorry to hear you're feeling low. *hugs* Here's Archie awake for one adn looking gratuitously gorgeous to cheer you up.

Have written rant and am seeing how long can hold off sending it !
Who is the rant aimed at? It it's addressed to me send it right away! E-mail ranting is very therapeutic :)

Wide awake Archie also very welcome of course as ever !

But rant - will see - and will explain offline

meanwhile my telly has broken down and its Law and Order UK night ....

Ps if your Donne is just poems this won't be in there - if it has sermon texts it will - tell Archie to give you back your copy if only for 5 minutes !

No worries, am here if needs be. You know where to find me.

Watch it online! That's what I do. Btw have you seen this? What a sweet, sweet man :)

tell Archie to give you back your copy if only for 5 minutes !
I shall try but it could be tricky ;) I think my copy is complete poetical works so the sermons may not be in there.

You are right - wresting a copy of Donne from an Archie with a starlit room and a Horatio near by is a task for the very brave indeed and indeed foolhardy.I know he is impoverished but he needs one of his own ( Edward and Bracey say they daresay they can stretch to it on their next trip to a port - at least Edward gets his copy back then too ...)
I'll send you the text instead

and as for the Best day ever - how utterly lovely a story is that. An officer and a gentleman in every point...

lovely tale *goes off to sign up to Bamber news instantly*
