I Haz Schooner!
Jan. 2nd, 2011 07:28 pmI may not have mentioned this before, but partner has a tendency to be quite splendidly daft on occasion. You know I said he got me a pirate for Christmas? Well look what I got for New Year...

It's a vintage Playmobil "Victorian Schooner" complete with crew, guns, small arms and, erm, dog! :D I had to rig this thing myself on Hogmanay and I can tell you it wasn't easy after a couple of glasses of wine. Sir Edward would not have been impressed....
Obviously the schooner is much too small to be the Indy and, being an O'Brian fan, partner has suggested that we call her Sophie. However I think we should call her Emily after Loud Emily. And anyway, she looks like an Emily! Partner and daughter have already staged several naval engagements on the hearth rug and I am quietly wondering if I can re-enact my fanfic ;)

The guns are splendid! They are spring loaded and fire the shot a considerable distance. We have also discovered that they fire peanuts and tic-tacs equally effectively though I don't think either were ever standard Admiralty issue ;)

Date: 2011-01-03 08:29 pm (UTC)The pirate captain could well be Jack Aubrey though I suspect he is a little on the slender side ;)

At the time of the letter of marque, even Stephen admitted that his particular friend had lost a lot of weight. *g*

Ah now that's a very good question. I wondered if he might be a lieutenant. He's very dashing whoever he is!

Date: 2011-01-02 11:11 pm (UTC)You tell me!! ;) Pirate is a new figure that doesn't actually belong with this set, but don't let that stop you using your imagination...
Daughter, who is four, came up with the following story yesterday....The red haired sailor is a girl and the yellow haired sailor is her boyfriend. The pirate captain captures the boyfriend. Girl sailor goes to rescue boyfriend but boyfriend doesn't want to leave pirate captain. Girl sailor shoots boyfriend. The end.

Date: 2011-01-04 10:30 am (UTC)she has too much daring strategic cunning and intelligence to be an admiralty official
it occurred to me that in this portrait of me I look like I belong on your lovely ship- at least for a visit to the dashing Lord Cochrane
And my friend ( posthumously so since, alas, we never met in our lives) Lord Collingwood thinks Fluffy is an admirable hound if a little gently named for a captain's dog ...
And as to avtivities in the rigging when less than sober - my official self is scandalised and my actual self remembers it well- headache, and lack of hand eye coordination and the lieutenants with the " I told you so " expression...
