While I was reading up on 18th century underwear (as you do) I came across this lovely quote from a 1710 edition of The Tatler:

"A sincere heart has not made half so many conquests as an open waistcoat."

I like that. And here are Horatio and Archie demonstrating the truth of that statement.

That's all :)

They have both!

Which scene is this, with Archie all bloody? I don't think it is the 'I killed two --well at least one!' Nor is it the retribution scene, is it?

They most definitely have both and they also have each others! Awww :)

Shezza is right, this scene is immediately after Horatio faces down Captain Sawyer. Archie runs up from the capstan below looking all damp and gorgeous. Hmmm... think I might have to do some more screen caps of that scene...

Renown, after Horatio has just stared down Sawyer over the barrel of a pistol.

Thanks. I obviously need to watch all 13 hours again soon, don't I?

*nods* Yes. Yes you do. And so do I. Any idea where I can find a 13 hour time warp?

Meant also to say what a wonderful quote! So true!

Isn't it lovely? Not that I'm suggesting that the boys don't have sincere hearts of course!

If Archie has both does that not make him pretty much irresistible?

Not that I thought he wasn't.

It's not depressing in this case because Horatio and Archie have sincere hearts and open waiscoats :) I mean just look at them!

Absolutely. I am frankly astonished that The Tatler was around in 1710!

The boys look gorgeous - but its true they have both..

How about this from a biography of an eminent naval hero:

his manners as a gentleman were no less elegant than his person, which was tall and graceful, while his handsome features denoted a heart susceptible of the dictates both of humanity and love....

and, alas no dear readers this isnotfrom amy biography of Edward Pellew - would it were

it is from Ross' Memoirs and Correspondence of Admiral Lord de Saumarez. From Original Papers in the Possession of his Family.

Just as well! I suspect Sir Edward would be mortified if you described him like that!! And he doesn't look too chuffed in your icon either.

If that description is even half true it's no wonder [livejournal.com profile] volgivagant has fallen for "the other" admiral ;)

he doesn't look too chuffed that is true - he would not really have cared for a biography that puffed him up in that sense that is true.

Actually the Ross' biography is something of a hoot - see upcoming post on my LJ.

Sir Edward and the rest of the senior crew are reflecting that their open waistcaot days may be ended -other than to acommodate feeling full over dinner !

I shall look forward to it. I finished Osler today btw, right down to the very last appendix!

Nonsense! Sir Edward still looks very fine. Very fine indeed.
