There's an ineresting wee article titled A case of Holmesophobia? in the Grauniad today on the "sublimated homosociability" of the new Sherlock Holmes film. Now I haven't seen the film and I'm unlikely to as cinema trips belong to my life BC (Before Children), however [livejournal.com profile] blackhound and [livejournal.com profile] sarlania have both commented on the slashiness of the film and I'm quite happy to take their word for it!

I seem to rememeber I picked up my first Sherlock Holmes novel after reading a book about homosexuality in the 19thC, Holmes was a major talking point in it.

I was hoping to the see the film this Friday but events seem to be conspring against me and it looks like I will be babysitting my father's 10 month old Alsatian instead.

I can't remember if I've actually read any Conan Doyle or not. I have a I sneaking feeling I have but I can't remember which one.

Talking of "sublimated homosociability" *points to [livejournal.com profile] esmerelda_t's icon* ;)

Eek! Hope he can hold his spirits better than Bartholemew!

I'm up to Hound of the Baskervilles which I got for Christmas and is in the pile of doom, I quite enjoy them, the mysteries themselves are a bit rubbish mind you, it's the Holmes/Watson dynamic that makes them IMO.

Eek! Hope he can hold his spirits better than Bartholemew!

Maybe if I give him enough he'll go to sleep instead of following me around like a, well, puppy. :P

You have a pile of doom too?! Glad it's not just me! I must add CD to my own pile. He can languish there under Alan Turing.

Thanks for the article! I have to say I found the film quite slashy too, but then I have always found Holmes and Watson to be rather slashy so I was never quite sure how much of that was my interpretation.
