How cute is this? Boaty wallpaper!

I think this looks like the kind of wallpaper Mr Bush would use to decorate Hornblower's cabin ;)

There were curtains and cushions — stuffed with oakum — and a coverlet, all gay with
red and blue roses and green leaves painted on with ship's paint by some unknown artist in the ship's
company.

I rather like the boat in the picture too, though I'm not sure about the purple sea! Ohoy wallpaper from Swedish design company Fine Little Day.

I always really liked that part. Shows how Bush has a very kind heart, to go with his loud shouty voice.

Indeed. Underneath that tough exterior Mr Bush is clearly a man of refinement and sensibility :)

He would dither in horror that we had noticed!

Poor Mr Bush, he really should have pursued a career in interior design and soft furnishings. His talents were wasted in the RN.

*lol* The touch of purple makes it just perfect… in this context… :D

The purple sea does add a certain something doesn't it?!

It looks as if there are moomins aboard some of the wallpaper ships...and I like the lighthouses. :D

Moomins aboard ship! Now there's a cross over crack fic prompt if ever I heard one.

"And what, pray tell, have you brought aboard my ship this time my good doctor?"

"That, my friend, is a moomin."

"Well just as long as it doesn't try to eat my hat..."

XD

The wallpaper is a Swedish design, is it not? ;D

Now, that would be Moomintroll. He and Snufkin can be fairly adventerous on occasion, and did not Moominpappa once command a float in a storm after he had gone adventuring with the Hattifatteners?

*happily imagines Moominmamma wielding her black handbag towards any froward seaman! *g*

yet moomins are Finnish design ;)

Friend of mine actually had a blue moomin toy ship with the figures as a kid. It didn't float very well o_O

*g* Yes, I know. Still, I believe the books were first published in Swedish?

What shame! I am sure it was not the Moomin's fault. ;D

Moomins come from Moominvalley! In Finland ;)

Hee... that's the trick... sort of like some Canadians are French speaking, some English speaking, in Finland there are Swedish, Finnish and Sami for official languages.

google found moomin ship:

I greatly admire people who are multi-lingual but sadly I am useless when it comes to languages.

The moomin ship is gorgeous! It would go perfectly with my schooner :)

I am quite sure that Moominmamma could repell the combined fleet single handed!

if that is what they thought Homer meant by 'wine dark sea' I would hate to see their version of 'rosy fingered dawn '...

That would be a new design with penguins aboard ships, and not with what looks like Moomins.

*g* Inevitably!
'Where is the style?' asked Jack, not to be diverted.
'Well, sir,' said Seymour, 'there is the sprightly penguin, for example, and the remigium piece, and later on there is the rosy-fingered dawn.'
'Well, no doubt it is very fine: but how in Heaven's name do you expect the examining captains to swallow two sprightly penguins, one after another? It is against nature.

ROFL! Don't worry, when I find someone posting anonymous O'Brian quotes on my LJ I can usually guess it's you! ;)

I am now greatly intrigued by the sprightly penguins! Has anyone ever published an O'Brian Menagerie? If they haven't, they should!

No?! Awww come on, someone needs to write an O'Brian Bestiary! I suggest you launch a community challenge immediately ;)

Go for it! The Bestiary should include illustrations, proper scientific annotations from the good doctor and margin notes by the captain ;)

I love it!!! I love the detailed simplicity of it, perhaps people should let their 8-year olds to draw on walls :D Great finding.

Oh and I loved that part of the book (which one was it? Hotspur? Because that one I read in English and got distracted with words "gay" "cushions" and mr. Bush housewifeing.)

It's impossible not to get distracted! He really does make a wonderful wife ;) And yes the quote is from Hotspur.

I would pay good cash money for the unwritten scene in that book where Bush actually ordered some poor rating to get with painting ROSES for the boyfriend Captain's coverlet.

I mean. REALLY.
