I am coming to the conclusion that in a past life I must have been a privateer with a taste for packet ships, either that or a dog with a taste for postmen's legs. I seem to have the most appalling postal karma. Particularly when it comes to sending things to fangirls.

At the beginning of December I sent a Christmas card by "air mail" to [livejournal.com profile] sarlania in Melbourne which eventually turned up at the end of January and had been chewed by snails along the way! I suspect it took the overland route from Glasgow to Melbourne via Outer Mongolia.

Then in early January I sent a birthday present to [livejournal.com profile] eglantine_br in New York, again by "air mail", which finally arrived last week. [livejournal.com profile] eglantine_br suggested it crossed the Atlantic in a leaky jolly boat and I think she may be right.

So when [livejournal.com profile] nodbear's birthday came around I decided not to take any chances. I spent a veritable king's ransom to have her present delivered by Royal Mail Parcel Force 24 Hour Express Special Delivery. And did it turn up the following day? Did it hell. Since then [livejournal.com profile] nodbear and I have been on a veritable wild goose chase, she by car and me by telephone, trying to track down the parcel. This proved to be a task of great difficulty as Parcel Force claimed to have delivered the parcel to "your local post office" but failed to provide any indication of the location of the post office in question. After a determined chace worthy of Sir Edward Pellew himself we finally located the depatches and [livejournal.com profile] nodbear launched a daring cutting out mission this morning and made off with the prize.

[livejournal.com profile] nodbear observed that the Royal Mail seem to be as reliable with despatches as that young Hornblower chap. Though how Parcel Force managed to run into the middle of the Spanish fleet on route from Glasgow to Berkshire is quite beyond me.

To quote Sir Edward: I DESPAIR I REALLY DO!!!

Obviously mail carriers are on the John Hornblower plan.

Obviously. I feel Dr Hornblower's pain. However I am also very glad he eventually got his post too :)

That's what [livejournal.com profile] sarlania said! Although I have no idea what kind of mutant mail eating gastropods they have in Melbourne!

Yes that might account for it. Doubly bad karma!

LOL

It's some sort of curse on members of NM. Jaccers from there sent me a video (Bambino in Murder of Roger Ackroyd). Came all the way over from Aus, local postie allegedly tried to deliver it but didn't leave card so I was none the wiser, went all the way back to Aus and eventually got sent back here again.

Hahaha! Glad it's not just me then. A three way trip between England and Oz really takes the biscuit!!

I hesitate to say this, as I'm sure it's tempting fate, but the only person I have any luck sending things to is you!

Heh! At lest your parcel arrived before mine did! I was starting to despair that [livejournal.com profile] nodbear would ever get the damn thing.

Well having chaced the despatches all over the town here and finally located the parcel I have to report much joy in the contents and of [livejournal.com profile] volgivagants parcel.
And the parcel itself told a story ( see my LJ page later today for that as soon as I can give myself the excuse to stop work and post something!)

It was certainly a chace worth of Sir Edward himself and I am glad the prize was worth it!
