The Far Side of the World

No I'm not abandoning Horatio and Archie for Jack and Stephen, fine as they undoubtedly are :) I really am going to the far side of the world. Tomorrow I'm off to New Zealand for a fortnight to meet up with partner and daughter who are over visiting in laws. As partner knows that I am not hugely enthused by family gatherings he has been attempting to mollify me with promises of wine, rugby and tall ships. There will definitely be wine, there may be rugby, though there are only sevens on at the moment, but the tall ships are a bit far away, most of them are further north than where we will be. Having said that, we might take a turn up to the Maritime Museum in Auckland. They have a lovely brigantine called Breeze, though I don't fancy a trip on the unfortunately named SS Puke!

I will have some internet access while I'm away but I'm unlikely to have much chance to get online. So I shall be leaving my darling Navyboys in your capable hands, look after them till I get back! Lieutenants mylodon, nodbear and esmerelda_t will be standing watch at following_sea while I'm on shore leave. I fear the worst....

*gasp* New Zealand! Lucky! And promises of wine, rugby and tall ships are always exciting ... I really hope you make it to the Maritime Museum, it looks like a great place for all things nautical! Have an excellent trip -- and may the family gathering prove enjoyable as well.
(And yes, I would also recommend the Breeze rather than the Puke. Who *was* in charge of naming that???)

TOMORROW??!! :o Well, have a save journey! Where exactly are you going? Will you travel around? I'm sure the family gathering is a small price to pay for getting to see NEW ZEALAND, omg!! You're going to take lots of pictures of everything you see for us, aren't you?? :o)

Gosh what a lot of questions! I'm going to the Bay of Plenty to stay with partner's dad and I hope not to be doing much travelling once I get there. Last time we were over we did did a big tour down to South Island and went hiking on the glaciers but since I'm only there for about ten days with three days travel at either end I'd rather stay put this time! NZ is a lot like Scotland in some places only with better wine, better rugby and even more unpredictable weather! The main point of going over is to let daughter visit grandpa's cows!!
