[livejournal.com profile] _likimeya's meme addiction I thought I had better comply with her request. She told me to:

Write these things in your normal handwriting and post a picture!

1. your lj name
2. your two favorite bands
3. a person you admire right now
4. the person you admire most
5. five people to tag

I also reneged on a promise to [livejournal.com profile] latin_cat to do a writing meme a while back so this is for Latin too :)

Jordi Savall? Oh, I adore him. Only last year I had the pleasure to see him perform. *sighs and gets starry eyed* It was so very interesting to note how he played his instrument.
You surely have seen Tous les matins du monde?

Btw, it is usually useless to tag me, as I do not do memes. :D

Ooh which programme did you see him perform? We saw Hesperion XXI performing a programme of Latin American baroque works last year. Sadly though we were seated in the aisle of the church and the acoustics were terrible :( He did a whole series at the Edinburgh International Festival a few years ago; we saw his production of L'Orfeo, a mixed Hesperion XXI programme and a solo recital which was one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard. (And yes Touts les matins du monde is one of my favourite films.)

it is usually useless to tag me, as I do not do memes
That's why I tend not to tag specific people :)

I saw and heard Le Concert des Nations,Jordi Savall, Viola da Gamba with Marin Marais: La Viole du Roi Soleil at the Stiftskirche Steterburg (click on photo which opens a new menue. Click on "weiter" for more photos)

The music also included several Lully and Saint-Colombe

I had a seat to one of the sides so I was able to get up now and then without disturbing anyone, and lean on a wall near a window. Thus I had a gorgeous view and when they finished and walked out, they walked past me at arms length. Oh, how I wish for another concert!

Sounds wonderful! Saval played several pieces by Lully, Marais and Saint-Colombe during the solo recital we went to and they were breathtaking. He also played A Souldier's Resolution by Hume which is one of my favorite viol pieces. Partner was brave enough to have a chat with him after the concert. I was way too shy and star struck to say anything coherent :}

Btw, not Saval, but have you heard Paolo Pandolfo and Thomas Boysen's Monsieur de Saint Colombe: Pieces de viole on Glossa? It's beautiful.

My favourite is Sainte-Colombe's Les Pleurs. I regard it as such a perfect piece for Stephen Maturin mourning his wife. Obviously, Le Retour would lend itself to being transcribed for cello and violin. :D

but have you heard Paolo Pandolfo and Thomas Boysen's *Monsieur de Sainte Colombe: Pieces de viole*
I have heard of it. Do you recommend it? Isn't it amazing how we don't know anything of the composer but his music.

Oh, what a brave partner you have! I was only able to smile at him when he passed me by.

Les Pleur is indeed very beautiful and La Retour would be perfect for cello and violin :)

Do you recommend it?
I would. It's a very different style from Saval but I love it. Boysen plays Baroque guitar which I adore and I think he complements the viol beautifully.

Oh! Then I will certainly try to get the CD. May I, in turn, recommend Andrew Maginley's The Baroque Lute with pieces by Bach, the father, Sylvius Weiss and Adam Falckenhagen. It has a wonderful rendition of Bach's Cello Suite no.1
*melts*

You certainly may! I am always delighted to have new Baroque or Renaissance music recommendations :) I have the Cello suites played on violin, viola and viol de gamba but not lute so I'll look forward to hearing that!

Again, this is me asking for a favour. It seems BBC radio4 is doing another of its O'Brian audio plays, this time "The Mauritius Command". Would you be able to record those three parts and maybe upload? They start this Sunday: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00zzpl5

I would take that very kindly.

Have fun with the Cello Suite. It is lovely.

Of course, I'd be more than happy to! And thank you for the heads up :) Do you think you could send me a wee reminder about the next two episodes? What with work and family and stuff I am liable to forget :}

Nice composition! :D

On tagging: I actually like being tagged, because I love doing (good) memes, but I'd never just copy one from somebody when I'm not tagged because I'd feel awkward doing silly stuff like that for no compelling reason. From time to time I come across a funny meme, and it says: "Whoever wants to do it, do it!", and I think, "damn, couldn't you just have tagged me and given me an excuse to do this??" I figure I'm not the only one who feels that way, that's why I always tag people. Those who absolutely don't want to do it will ignore it anyway. :)

And paperweights are wonderful. Long live Playmobil!

Why thank you! My writing has barely changed since I was in school and that wasn't yesterday!

Long live Playmobil!
Playmobil FTW! Daughter got a whole new set of pirates for her birthday. I predict a full scale engagement with my "Victorian Schooner" before too long ;)

very nice composition - enjoyed this - and its a good meme - but for obvious reasons not for me - so have succumbed to saying yes to Likimeyas other one to make up for being party- pooper here .

Heres the Indy though - pretty high in the admiration stakes just now !
