Continuing the pirate theme. Conversation with daughter this morning while getting ready for work...

Daughter: Mum why is that glass in the bathroom?
Me: Because I took my glass of wine up when I had a bath last night.
Daughter: (laughing) That's what pirates do! You're so funny mum!
Me: It is? I am?!
Daughter: Yes pirates drink lots and sing really loudly! In the bath.

I relayed this conversation to [livejournal.com profile] nodbear earlier and she suggested I ask you guys what do pirates sing in the bath then? (Apart from Yo Ho Sebastian obviously...)

well, next time you could sing the Horatio and Archie song! You could make a recording. (Bathroom acoustics are supposed to be great...)

Of course! What else?!

You could make a recording.
Seriously. You have no idea what a bad idea that is. I may have some many talents but singing is not one of them :}

I'll join you in not singing and save the world the cost of earplugs and cottonballs!

Hehe! You, me and poor old tone-deaf Hornblower can be the audience :D

While I can't sing, I can, fortunately appreciate those who can. Poor Horatio, to never experience a beautiful melody or lush overtones of harmony.

Indeed. I couldn't agree more. Although I have always been fascinated by the passage in The Frogs and the Lobsters (book) that described Hornblower's sensitivity to rhythm...

They were beating to arms, calling the men to their duties
from their billets, and Hornblower, tone-deaf but highly sensitive to rhythm, thought it was fine
music, real music.

Y'know? I've managed to live in blissful ignorance of the Rubber Ducky song. Not any more.

When I squeeze you, you make a noise!
What? WHAT?! *dies*

Never will I forget now, mental image, Archie singing happily, in bath, complete with modesty bubbles and rubber duck! (Sort of like a guest piece on Sesame Street.)

*blinks* It's getting waaaay too surreal around here this morning! Think I might have to go and lie down in a dark room with a rubber ducky.

Though as Horato is a bright lad and knows that sustained and intense rythmic activity first increases but then removes bath bubbles he might just be wearing his 'cat got the cream' anticipatory look, which is this one and approved by Archie ....

Coffee => keyboard! I beg your pardon?!! IDIRD ;)

Archie doesn't look like he's complaining though...

Archie is far from complaining - and is fascinated to know what noise Horatio makes as in the song lyric ...

Well obviously if you squeeze Horatio the noise he makes it ha-hmm. If you squeeze him really hard you might even get a harrumph!

I think this (which sits on my bath here)looks like an Archie rubber duck!
Though there are others ( see below )

Really (she says bravely,) I think I'll be all right. I would like to share the image of Dr Clive singing 'C is for coookie.'

Dr Clive? Who called for Dr Clive?

(Why do I get the feeling my new Dr Clive icon is going to be making frequent appearances around here...)

From: [identity profile] nodbear.livejournal.com
If we are going to have a run on Dr Clive icons I think we need a few more duckies to counterbalance
here we have a pair of middy ducks ...
ok having slept all morning at least I've made a contribution to this weekend intellect -fest on Following Sea ...

It has indeed been a hive of intellectual activity and astute commentary here today. Or something.

The middy ducks are very cute but at the risk of betraying the service I should point out that we were originally discussing pirate ablutions. In which case I think you'll agree that this little ducky fits the bill admirably!

From: [identity profile] nodbear.livejournal.com
I agree this is a dark and exotic pirate ducky - maybe we need a whole range of bath toys suitable for this fandom- or am I sailing into dangerous waters here
I will get my coat this time

No self respecting pirate would drink wine while singing in the bath!

They'd be drinking mojitos.

Its too dangerous to put the blender on the edge of the tub! Pirates have gotten shocked that way!

From: [identity profile] anteros-lmc.livejournal.com
ROFL! When I read this in my inbox I though it was in reply to [livejournal.com profile] nodbear's comment about "sustained and intense rhythmic activity"!!!

Date: 2011-04-16 07:20 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] eglantine-br.livejournal.com
You mean that they would loose their covering bubbles when mixing drinks by hand in the tub? At that point, I hardly think it matters!

Date: 2011-04-17 08:31 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] anteros-lmc.livejournal.com
Let me get this right...we've got two pirates sitting in a bath, without bubbles, mixing mojitos by hand? Possibly accompanied by an unspecified number of rubber ducks. Is that right? How the hell did that happen???!

A trenchant analysis of the situation! I hope you have a big bathtub!

Alas no, our current bath is tiny but we are hoping to get a new one put in. Possibly one with an AoS connection... ;)
