What does "many happy returns of the day" actually mean.
I've always assumed that it meant "may this day return happily many times" ie "I wish you lots of happy future birthdays", but I've never actually checked so I could be completely wrong.
Whatever it means, I wish esmerelda_t happy birthday, too!
if you stress 'anden' in one way it means 'the spirit', but if you stress it differently it means 'the duck'. ROFL! Any language with the potential to confuse ducks and spirits wins in my book :)
I have to confess I have never heard much Swedish. I'm a bit more familiar with Norwegian as I have a Norwegian colleagues I used to do a lot of work with, but I have no idea if the two languages are familiar or not? There's cerainly some commonality between Norweigian and Gaelic as they share a certain amount of vocabulary due to the Norse influence in the Highlands and Islands during the Viking period.
we have three more letters than youuu! And a lot more sheep too by the sound of things! ;P
Some of the place names on the island I'm from will probably sound very familiar to you: Sandwick, Bosta, Laxdale, Ness, Islivig, etc, etc. You'd feel right at home!
Sounds good. =) Mine is called Terra. The guidelines advice you to add tea to it to intensify the colour, and it somehow preserves the smell, so that my head smells of tea whenever it gets wet. :D *ms random information*
