I was having a quick look over my Hornblower Remix draft this morning while having coffee. Daughter, who was wanting a shot of the laptop to play princess games, was peering over my shoulder and wanted to know what I was reading. I told her it was a story about sailors and she asked me to read it to her. So I chose a couple of reasonably innocuous paragraphs and started reading. Two paragraphs in and daughter told me to stop because it was "boring" and it was an "old dusty story". I am crushed! Crushed I tell you! I only hope the person I'm remixing will be a bit more enthusiastic about my creative endeavours. *grumble grumble*

Well from what I've heard about your daughter she's quite sensible and logical so...

Oi! Just because you've got a devastatingly cute Archie icon doesn't give you the right to be cheeky!

Well, obviously if you leave out the juicy bits she's going to complain!

Out of the mouths of babes...
It needs more princesses.

Meh. Princesses. Normally she's more interested in pirates, I have no idea why it was princesses today.

pirates , princesses - * nods also* - and here I am reading about puppet show versions of Lord Exmouth's life by a Parisian theatre company that features pirates and his entertaining of the then pricess of Wales in Genoa - so perhpas the P and P quotient is right after all!
toots is going to be great as a reviewer - no one is going to be in doubt what she thinks...

makes me nervous about the story I am working on for her - though it does have pirates in it ...natch !

ROFL! That sounds like a Fringe performance!

no one is going to be in doubt what she thinks
You're not wrong there, she's usually pretty forthright in voicing her opinions.

though it does have pirates in it
Chuck in a couple of princesses and you'll be fine! XD

A pirate princess, swashing the buckle with party dress and cutlass!

Girls these days are not to be trifled with!

This one is certainly not to be trifled with I can tell you.

I want to see the EP puppet show too! I imagine it to be along the lines of Punch and Judy but with boats :) I wonder if they had little cannons that fired?

It could be worse. She could get your books and read out the rude bits over dinner...

*gasp* What makes you think I have books with rude bits in them?! I suppose there are those ones by Charlie Cochrane... ;)

That's exactly what I meant, 'your' meaning 'one'.

Let's start again. My girls read rude bits from my books - or worse still, make up soundalike stuff - and recite it over dinner.

Lol! Just teasing, I knew what you meant ;) Just think though, one day my daughter will be able to read out the rude bits from your books at my dinner table :D

Don't give up on her (judging from the comments: even if she's interested in princesses/pirates/current interest right now)! Just keep plying her with all sorts of sailing and naval terminologies (tell her its a part of learning how to be a pirate-princess - you have to know your terminologies in order to get a crew to listen to you!) and who knows? Maybe she'll grow up and want to join the Navy (ahem) and start her own adventures! ;p

Oh yes! She's already well briefed on the difference between sailors and pirates. She knows that her boat has pirates and mummy's boat has sailors! I also read Loud Emily to her from time to time to keep her up to speed with naval terminology XD
