So. After a crazy week I took some long over due time in lieu and bunked off work this afternoon for a couple of hours to nosey around Pollock House where they are currently filming Garrow's Law. As with most film sets there wasn't a huge amount to see other than lots of trucks and various wired up blokes hanging around large piles of cables and lighting equipment. However I did get to see one or two fine gentlemen in breeches too :)

All the filming appeared to be taking place inside the house rather than in the grounds and stable courtyard, which were used extensively for outdoor scenes in the last series. Although the National Trust for Scotland kept both the house and the grounds open to the public, the rooms being used for filming were understandably closed. When I got there the small cast had stopped for lunch and various blokes in breeches, including a very fine footman in gorgeous red livery and powdered wig, were milling around the catering truck. Before Joyful Molly anyone gets too excited I didn't see Mr Andrew Buchan, although now I look at the pic below, which I snapped from miles away, I wonder if that's him in the centre?

However I definitely did see Mr Rupert Graves queuing for his lunch. Sadly he was not in (or out of!) his breeches and I can tell you he looks every bit as stern in real life as Sir Arthur Hill does on screen. Apart from the above, I didn't take any pictures of the munching cast because I thought it would be rude to intrude on their lunch.

I also went for a wonder around the house where they were setting up lights to film in one of the drawing rooms. Earlier in the day they had been filming in Pollock House's beautiful library and it was still scattered with props, mostly low round tables, silver plate and decanters so I am guessing they were filming some kind of club scene? (Again no pics, as photography is nor allowed in NTS properties. Sorry.) On the way out of the house I ran into a rather smart chap in a lovely buff coloured coat and breeches and a more elderly gentleman all in black with a collar length grey wig and splendid tricorne hat. I sat and read on the lawn in front of the house, where there were lights set up, in the hope that they might film some outdoor scenes, but I eventually came to the conclusion that the lights were being used to illuminate scenes being filmed inside in the drawing room.

So there you have it. Not the most exciting of set reports but I did my best!

PS while nosing round the china cabinets in the study I spotted a lovely rummer glass engraved to commemorate the battle of Trafalgar and the death of Nelson which the catalogue said dated from 1806.

Very green and pretty. I like the maze. Strange to see the long coats contrasted with the food truck.

The maze is fabulous. It continues round the side of the house where it fills a much larger space. It's only about two feet high though so it's always filled with tiny children shrieking with delight. I posted a pic of it here.

The funny thing was that the actors looked perfectly in keeping with the house and it was the modern vehicles that looked out of place!

Garrow's Law has made it to the US on PBS television. Not sure which season(s) I've seen, but I really like it. The jury deliberations always amuse me, as I had jury duty about a year ago. The case went for nearly a week, and our deliberations were noted as being very short. Still, we were out for over an hour.

It's a brilliant show. I neglected to watch the first series but I really enjoyed the second series. Have you seen the episode about Captain Baillie exposing corruption at Greenwich Hospital? It's excellent. As is the episode about Captain Jones and Mr Jaskers.

I saw the one about Captain Baillie. Thought he looked a lot like Hornblower's steward aboard Hotspur. (My daughter and I continously id actors by roles we've seen them in previously.)

Yes! Captain Baillie was indeed played by Ron Cook aka Doughty. Costume drama is a small world ;)

Thank you very much for this!

As Garrow would say:
It is appreciated!

How showbiz! Since we last spoke I still haven't seen anything being filmed, not even a newscast!

I have to confess I had to google him to remember his surname but I recognised him from the series! He looked a bit grumpy. Perhaps he was in character :}

Thank you! That's such a lovely place; I'm really glad we'll see Pollock House make a reappearance in series 3. :) And I really think that could be Mr. Garrow. Sir Arthur's dastardly lawyer aside, he's the only one wearing black in the series.

I spotted a lovely rummer glass engraved to commemorate the battle of Trafalgar and the death of Nelson which the catalogue said dated from 1806

No decent house can be without one!

I honestly thought he wasn't there until I zoomed in on this pic!

Sir Arthur's dastardly lawyer aside, he's the only one wearing black in the series.
That's interesting, there were at least two other men on the set dressed in black, the gentlemen in the middle pic above and the older man with the long grey wig. I did wonder if they were other lawyers.

No decent house can be without one!
Dammit! I must procure a Trafalgar rummer forthwith!

Yay! Thanks for the pics and the set report! Since Rupert is there, it means Sir Arthur is still a player in series 3. And in the second picture you look, that looks like Anton Lesser (Mr. Farmer) in costume. I didn't think he'd be back, but they probably didn't want to waste such a great villain!

Hmm. I'm thinking either they'll be involved in a case which involves the Navy, a threat to the aristocracy in general, or (and this is the one I'm leaning towards), Samuel's custody will not be a straightforward affair.

Bring it on!

You're very welcome! Feel free to share this with anyone else that might be interested btw

I'll take your word for it if you think that's Mr Farmer. I did watch the second series, and enjoyed it very much, but I wouldn't recognise all the characters.

I'm thinking either they'll be involved in a case which involves the Navy
I didn't see any actors in naval uniform, which is probably just as well, as I might not have been answerable for my actions ;) I would love to see another episode featuring the navy!
