Conservation of Nelson's uniform completed

The National Maritime Museum have now completed the conservation of Nelson's Trafalgar uniform and placed it back on display. You can read their final conservation blog post here and see the uniform being placed back in its display cabinet below.

Goosebumps to think of it having another treatment in another 50 years, by people maybe not even alive yet...

Well if you're a dork then I am too! I used to do archaeological conservation in my previous career and it certainly gives you pause for thought knowing how long some of these artefacts had survived and how they were likely to continue surviving much longer that you were!

Yes. Lovely shivers, like being alone on the beach at night. The sense of being a small creature, in an ongoing parade of other similar small creatures, and it being just fine.

Gosh yes! I know exactly what you mean but I've always struggled to put it into words. I find that feeling of insignificance very reassuring. I suspect that makes less sense than the way you put it!

Wicked cool! I'm so going to see that display when I'm wandering around the museum come August! I'll see if I can take pictures (if they'll allow flash photography)...
