Ships fighting and firing their cannons
Aug. 31st, 2011 08:25 pmI do realise that being expected to admire the artistic endeavours of other peoples offspring can be somewhat tedious, however I couldn't resist sharing this splendid drawing that daughter presented me with the other day. It's a picture of "ships fighting and firing their cannons" and I've annotated it helpfully so you can tell what's going on.

I'm particularly fond of the sailor doing the bathroom in the heads which are equipped with toilet, toilet roll holder and wash hand basin. How civilised!

She really captured the feeling of the action.
I wonder if small Horatio ever drew pictures of ships? Or Archie? Parents must have saved drawings, even back then right?
I hope the sailor on the toilet will not be blamed for missing the battle! (I trust he will wash his hands too.)
Really made my day. Did she draw this at school?

Date: 2011-08-31 08:10 pm (UTC)Yes indeed! She had to ask her dad where sailors did the toilet, he pointed to where the heads would be and she interpreted accordingly XD

I should also have added that the shark is about the eat the unfortunate sailor that has fallen in the water beside him!

I could imagine Horatio drawing very precise little ship diagrams, whereas Archie's artistic endeavours would be more "impressionistic"
Did she draw this at school?
No, she drew this as a special present for me on Saturday morning because "mummy likes sailors" :)

She's only five and a half so if she was I'd be a bit worried! XD

Date: 2011-09-01 04:41 am (UTC)I have to admire the treasure chest, the ensign, and all those masts and flags. Surely those are multi purpose flags which double as sails? The gunports are all kinds of awesome and as an enemy I would tremble at the sight of them.
Really, I could pour over the drawing and your daughter's eye for details for some time. The sailors would be mighty pleased about their bog with toilet roll holder and sink. Stephen Maturin would very much approve of the hygiene.
