On another matter, I'm trying to decide which service the sailor is in. If there were five pointed stars in the corners of the collar, he might be USN from the days of dress whites, especially as he is wearing what appears to be an US Navy white hat. (Which I have always understood to be unique to the US Navy.) As I understand it, dress whites are making a come back, only the color will remain white, while the piping and stars will be blue. A reverse effect of the more familiar dress blue jumper uniform.
My thought is that perhaps this individual is a crewman aboard a private vessel of some sort, one in which the owners created apparel for the crew based on their own ideas and preferences. Dave
